Osteoporosis knowledge, health beliefs, and healthy bone behaviours in patients on androgen‐deprivation therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer
Conclusions Most patients who are receiving ADT are not receiving appropriate screening, lack basic information about bone health, and are not engaging in the appropriate HBBs. These findings support the application of the Health Belief Model in this population: interventions that teach patients about the implications of bone loss, encourage proper uptake of HBBs, and promote feelings of SE could increase engagement in HBBs to prevent and manage bone loss.

A Prospective Study of the Association of Metacognitive Beliefs and Processes with Persistent Emotional Distress After Diagnosis of Cancer
Abstract Two hundred and six patients, diagnosed with primary breast or prostate cancer completed self-report questionnaires on two occasions: before treatment (T1) and 12 months later (T2). The questionnaires included: the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale; Impact of Events Scale; the Metacognitions Questionnaire-30 (MCQ-30) and the Illness Perceptions Questionnaire-revised. A series of regression analyses indicated that metacognitive beliefs at T1 predicted between 14 and 19 % of the variance in symptoms of anxiety, depression and trauma at T2 after controlling for age and gender. For all three outcomes, t...

Barriers and Facilitators to Informed Decision-Making About Prostate Cancer Screening Among Black Men
Conclusions: Our results indicate that Black men may lack the prerequisite information to make informed decisions about PrCa screening, which is notable in light of known PrCa racial disparities. Clinicians can play an important role in facilitating IDM through fostering discussions about the benefits and risks of PrCa screening and educating Black men about racial disparities.

Abstract IA43: Overview on obesity and cancer in diverse populations
Obesity is a serious and costly public health problem. In 2009-2010, more than one-third of U.S. adults (35.7%) and 17% of youth were reported to be obese. The epidemiological data suggest that obesity is markedly different among multiple racial and ethnic populations. According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports, Non-Hispanic blacks have the highest age-adjusted rates of obesity (47.8%) followed by Hispanics (42.5%), non-Hispanic whites (32.6%), and non-Hispanic Asians (10.8%). Higher prevalence of adult obesity was found in the Midwest (29.5%) and the South (29.4%). Lower preval...

Abstract B68: Men at high risk for prostate cancer and the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test: Uptake levels and physician recommendations
Conclusion: The results of this study add to the argument that although the PSA test is an effective long-term diagnostic tool, it is only being utilized by about 50% of men who meet the criteria for being at high-risk for developing prostate cancer and physicians are only recommending about 59% of these high-risk men. Physicians should be encouraged to pay close attention to men who show signs of increased hereditary risk and recommend them for long-term PSA monitoring and better efforts should be made to educate the high risk community of men about the benefits of non-invasive PSA monitoring.Citation Format: Meshka Ander...
