A cross-national examination of sexual desire: The roles of ‘gendered cultural scripts’ and ‘sexual pleasure’ in predicting heterosexual women's desire for sex
Publication date: 1 December 2019Source: Personality and Individual Differences, Volume 151Author(s): Jennifer D. Rubin, Terri D. Conley, Verena Klein, Jie Liu, Christine M. Lehane, Jesper DammeyerAbstractWomen's low sexual desire has received a great deal of cultural and research attention. Surprisingly, pleasure women receive during partnered sexual encounters and sociocultural beliefs about sexual desire have largely been absent in the literature. The present study examined if gendered cultural scripts and pleasure from a sexual encounter predicted heterosexual women's desire for sex in four cross-national samples: Unit...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 10390: First Nations Peoples & rsquo; Eating and Physical Activity Behaviors in Urban Areas: A Mixed-Methods Approach
This study had two objectives: (1) to examine eating and PA behaviors among First Nations peoples in urban areas and (2) to explore the associated health representations. To achieve these objectives, a mixed-methods approach, including a questionnaire (n = 32) and a semi-structured interview (n = 14), was used to explore the participants’ lifestyle profiles and health experiences. The questionnaire focused on the eating and PA behaviors of First Nations people and their underlying motivations. At the same time, the interviews investigated their health views on diet and PA behaviors based on the conceptual fra...

Professional barriers and facilitators to using stratified care approaches for managing non-specific low back pain: a qualitative study with Canadian physiotherapists and chiropractors
ConclusionsSeveral shared and unique barriers and facilitators to using the stratified care approaches for non-specific LBP among Canadian physiotherapists and chiropractors were identified. Findings may help inform the design of tailored theory-based knowledge translation interventions to increase the uptake of stratified care approaches in clinical practice.

Knowledge of and adherence to radiographic guidelines for low back pain: a survey of chiropractors in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
ConclusionsWhile many chiropractors in this sample reported being unsure of specific radiographic guidelines, the majority of respondents adhered to guideline recommendations measured using clinical vignettes. Nonetheless, a small proportion still hold beliefs about radiographs for LBP that are discordant with current radiographic guidelines. Future research should aim to determine barriers to guideline uptake in this population in order to design and evaluate tailored knowledge translation strategies to reduce unnecessary LBP imaging.

Dispensing and practice use patterns, facilitators and barriers for uptake of ulipristal acetate emergency contraception in British Columbia: a mixed-methods study
In this study, we determined dispensing and practice use patterns for ulipristal acetate, as well as facilitators of and barriers to emergency contraception for physicians, pharmacists and patients in BC.METHODS: In the quantitative component of this mixed-methods study, we examined ulipristal acetate use from September 2015 to December 2018 using a database that captures all outpatient prescription dispensations in BC (PharmaNet) and another capturing market sales numbers for all oral emergency contraception in BC (IQVIA). We analyzed the quantitative data descriptively. We conducted semistructured interviews from August ...

A qualitative study exploring perceived barriers and enablers to fidelity of training and delivery for an intervention to reduce non-indicated imaging for low back pain
ConclusionThe largest perceived barrier to attending training was time; perceived enablers were incentives and flexible training. Patient pressure, time, and established habits were perceived barriers to delivering the intervention as intended. Participants suggested enhancement strategies to improve their ability to deliver the intervention as intended, including reminders and check-ins with researchers. Most participants perceived intervention fidelity as important. These results may aid in the development of a more feasible and pragmatic intervention to reduce non-indicated imaging for GPs and chiropractors in NL.

Barriers and facilitators to physical activity and exercise among adults with depression: A scoping review
Conclusions Most identified domains are all common determinants of health behaviours in various models and theories applied to physical activity participation. However, the Emotion domain appears to be particularly important to individuals with depression, and yet is not covered by these traditional theories of behaviour change, and may be overlooked when trying to promote physical activity among this population. Future research should investigate the effectiveness of behavior change interventions that specifically target the Emotion domain, and clearly report the behaviour change techniques employed to do so.

Facilitators and barriers to the use of service dogs: an exploratory study using the Theoretical Domains Framework.
CONCLUSION: Improving the knowledge of the availability and process of acquiring service dogs would be important for rehabilitation professions to improve the quality of life and functional capabilities of persons with disabilities. Implications for rehabilitation Identifying determinants of service dog acquisition and use can support proposed strategies to optimize the use of this assistive technology; Determinants of service dog acquisition and use are are different for dog owners and rehabilitation professionals, which suggest the need of tailored knowledge translation strategies; Knowledge, beliefs about consequences, ...
