Whipworm Infection Promotes Bacterial Invasion, Intestinal Microbiota Imbalance, and Cellular Immunomodulation Host Response and Inflammation
Infections with Trichuris trichiura are among the most common causes of intestinal parasitism in children worldwide, and the diagnosis is based on microscopic egg identification in the chronic phase of the infection. During parasitism, the adult worm of the trichurid nematode maintains its anterior region inserted in the intestinal mucosa, which causes serious damage and which may open access for gut microorganisms through the intestinal tissue. The immune-regulatory processes taking place during the evolution of the chronic infection are still not completely understood. By use of the Swiss Webster outbred mouse model, mic...

Effect of dexamethasone on gene expression of cannabinoid receptor type 1 and adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase in the hypothalamus of broilers (Gallus domesticus)
In conclusion, CB1 is mainly expressed in the hypothalamus of broilers; 72-h DEX exposure can regulate the CB1 system and AMPK signaling pathway of the broiler hypothalamus.PMID:34144188 | DOI:10.1016/j.cbpa.2021.111018

Prenatal genetic testing and treatment for congenital adrenal hyperplasia
Couples at risk for autosomal recessive congenital adrenal hyperplasia often request anticipatory guidance and genetic counseling. Initially, hormones in amniotic fluid were measured to distinguish affected female fetuses from unaffected fetuses. With the molecular era, more-targeted approaches became possible. Prenatal genetic diagnosis via amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling was used to determine the need for continuing fetal therapy (dexamethasone), allowing cessation if the fetus was unaffected.
