Peer beliefs and smoking in adolescence: a longitudinal social network analysis.
CONCLUSION: The results from this study suggest that peer beliefs about smoking, in addition to peer cigarette use itself, are associated with adolescent smoking through several mechanisms. Because beliefs favorable to cigarette use are present before adolescents actually smoke, these results underscore the importance of implementing smoking prevention programs in early adolescence. The effect of worrying on intolerance of uncertainty and positive and negative beliefs about worry
ConclusionsThe results suggest that engaging in worry can increase scores on measures of the beliefs and thought patterns often used to causally explain worry. The results are in line with recent research showing bidirectionality between anxiety related symptoms and their associated clinical constructs, and are consistent with an approach which sees anxiety symptoms as part of an evolved integrated threat management system that alerts the individual to threats to goals or challenges, and coordinates cognitive, behavioral, and affective reactions to enable effective responding to these threats and challenges.

The majority of kindergarten teachers devoted considerable time to writing instruction (36  min a day) and student writing (24 min a day) and used most of ...

Publication date: January 2018 Source:Learning and Individual Differences, Volume 61 Author(s): Maria Cristina Matteucci, Kerstin Helker Teachers', parents' and students' beliefs about their reciprocal roles and responsibilities at school are crucial if responsibility for educational process and outcomes is to be effectively shared. By investigating 235 students', 35 teachers' and 175 parents' assignment of responsibility to themselves or to others at an Italian junior-high in parallel with a high school, t...

College Student Dating Partner Drinking Profiles: Differences in Relationship Functioning and Relationship-Specific Alcohol Expectancies.
Conclusions/Importance: Findings indicate that there are several distinct classes of dating couples that differ in relationship problems and beliefs about alcohol's impact on their relationship. Riskier couples differ in behaviors and alcohol-related beliefs from low-risk couples. These findings may inform the development of more efficacious alcohol interventions tailored toward high-risk drinking dating couples. PMID: 27096223 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Positive beliefs about anorexia nervosa and muscle dysmorphia are associated with eating disorder symptomatology.
CONCLUSIONS: Although preliminary, these findings suggest that, among young men and women, positive beliefs about anorexia nervosa and muscle dysmorphia may contribute to the development and maintenance of these conditions. Some symptoms of muscle dysmorphia may be perceived as ego-syntonic, providing another parallel with anorexia nervosa. PMID: 25690746 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Food-related practices and beliefs of rural US elementary and middle school teachers.
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that most rural teachers recognize that having a healthy school food environment is important, but are less aware of factors within the school that influence students' eating behaviors - including their own eating behaviors and classroom food practices - and, perhaps for this reason, many rural teachers engage in classroom practices and behaviors that do not promote healthy eating. Teacher training and expanded school policies that focus on teacher behavior may be needed to ensure a healthier rural school food environment. PMID: 27287617 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Social media and dating app use are differentially related to same- and next-day disordered eating pathology in young men with loss of control eating
DISCUSSION: Non-significant links for SNS and dating app use with body dissatisfaction, and inverse associations with LOC eating, are contrary to research conducted with girls and women. Research is needed to evaluate whether the quality of SNS and dating app engagement (e.g., specific sites) are more closely related to men's disordered eating, and this work should consider muscularity concerns.PMID:37146410 | DOI:10.1016/j.eatbeh.2023.101735
