Osteoporosis knowledge, health beliefs, and healthy bone behaviours in patients on androgen‐deprivation therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer
Conclusions Most patients who are receiving ADT are not receiving appropriate screening, lack basic information about bone health, and are not engaging in the appropriate HBBs. These findings support the application of the Health Belief Model in this population: interventions that teach patients about the implications of bone loss, encourage proper uptake of HBBs, and promote feelings of SE could increase engagement in HBBs to prevent and manage bone loss.

Why eating insects makes sense: same protein, less fat than beef, better for the planet (Economist video)
From The Economist: "An unusual way to boost the food supply and feed people sustainably: by eating less meat, and more insects.About 2 billion people already eat bugs. Mexicans enjoy chili-toasted grasshoppers. Thais tuck into cricket stir-fries and Ghanians snack on termites. Insects are slowly creeping onto Western menus as novelty items, but most people remain squeamish. Yet there are three reasons why eating insects makes sense.First, they are healthier than meat. There are nearly 2,000 kinds of edible insects, many of them packed with protein, calcium, fibre, iron and zinc. A small serving of grasshoppers can contain...

Nutrition and Eating Behavior in Patients With Chronic Pain Receiving Long-Term Opioid Therapy
Conclusions: Obesity, deficient nutrient intake, and poor eating behavior were highly prevalent in our sample of patients with chronic pain who underwent long-term opioid therapy. Larger prospective studies are necessary to assess the eating behavior of patients with chronic pain who are treated with or without opioid analgesics.

Rethink Food Security and Nutrition Following Covid-19 Pandemic
By Jomo Kwame Sundaram and Wan Manan MudaKUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Jul 2 2020 (IPS) The Covid-19 crisis has had several unexpected effects, including renewed attention to food security concerns. Jomo Kwame SundaramTransnational food business Disruption of transnational food supply chains and the devastation of many vulnerable livelihoods by policy responses to the Covid-19 pandemic have revived interest in earlier understandings of food self-sufficien...

Overview of the Dietary Intakes of the Mexican Population: Results from the National Health and Nutrition Survey 2012 Supplement-The Dietary Intake and Eating Habits of the Mexican Population: Results from the National Health and Nutrition Survey 2012
Conclusions: High proportions of Mexicans consume diets that do not meet recommendations. Breastfeeding and complementary feeding diverged from recommendations, intakes of discretionary foods were high, and the prevalence of nutrient inadequacies and age groups not meeting intake recommendations of basic food groups were also high. The results are consistent with the high prevalence of the double burden of malnutrition and are useful to design food and nutrition policies.

Effect of oral calcium administration on metabolic status and uterine health of dairy cows with reduced postpartum rumination and eating time
Hypocalcemia has detrimental effects on health and performance of dairy cows. As hypocalcemic cows show reduced feed intake, we hypothesized that cows with reduced combined rumination and eating time (CRET) ma...

High Prevalence of Inadequate Calcium and Iron Intakes by Mexican Population Groups as Assessed by 24-Hour Recalls Supplement-The Dietary Intake and Eating Habits of the Mexican Population: Results from the National Health and Nutrition Survey 2012
Conclusions: Intakes of calcium, iron, magnesium, and zinc are inadequate in the Mexican population, especially among adolescents and adults. These results suggest a public health concern that must be addressed.

The effect of increasing dairy calcium intake of adolescent girls on changes in body fat and weight Obesity and eating disorders
Conclusion: Our findings that the dairy group gained body fat similar to the control group provide no support for dairy food as a stratagem to decrease body fat or weight gain in overweight adolescent girls. This trial was registered at clinicaltrials.gov as NCT01066806.

Cholecystokinin responsiveness varies across the population dependent on metabolic phenotype Obesity and eating disorders
Conclusions: CCK responsiveness varies widely across the population, with reduced signaling in patients with obesity and diabetes. This could explain the failure of CCK agonists in previous clinical trials and supports the rationale to develop corrective modulators to reverse this defective servomechanism for appetite control. This trial was registered at www.clinicaltrials.gov as NCT03121755.

Intake, digestibility, ingestive behavior, production, and composition of goat milk supplemented with detoxified castor bean meal added urea as a replacement of soybean meal
This study evaluated the castor bean meal detoxified with calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] added urea replacing soybean meal in the diet of lactating goats from milk production and composition, intake, digestibility, and ingestive behavior. Eight Alpine multiparous goats weighting 44.3  ± 5.3 kg and at approximately 60 days of lactation were confined and randomly distributed in 4 × 4 double Latin squares, with four inclusion levels of detoxified castor meal: control (0), 25, 50, and 75 g/kg dry matter (DM) total. Detoxified castor bean meal replacing soybean meal (P >  0.05) in goats diet did not affect inta...

Dietary Factors and Eating Behaviors Affecting Diet-Induced Thermogenesis in Obese Individuals: A Systematic Review.
In conclusion, the findings suggest that in obese individuals, DIT is associated with various factors related to meal, nutrient, and dietary habits. However, because of the complexity of the relationship between DIT and obesity, it is difficult to determine the critical element underlying this association. PMID: 32115447 [PubMed - in process]

Adolescents and Bone Health
Adolescence is a critical time for the acquisition of peak bone mass. There are modifiable factors that may influence bone health in an adolescent. For those at risk for bone fragility, initial management includes optimization of calcium and vitamin D, weight-bearing exercise, and maintenance of a normal body weight. In certain scenarios, bisphosphonate treatment is indicated, as is reviewed. How hormonal contraceptives affect bone mineral density is unclear, but in patients with risk factors or known bone fragility, prescribers should consider their skeletal effects. Some conditions, including restrictive eating disorders...
