Evaluations of life style factors and the severity of Gastroesophageal reflux disease; a case-control study.
This study focuses on the background features of these patients and evaluates the two GERD sub types; none erosive (NERD) and erosive (ERD). In a case-control study, patients with reflux symptoms who had obtained a total score of 8-18 of the GERD questionnaire were included. Control group consisted of their families with lower scores and no reflux presentations. All demographic features were recorded. Then upper GI endoscopy performed and the cases divided into two sub groups: NERD and ERD. In the next step, all demographic data analyzed for these two subgroups. The data were analyzed using the SPSS software version 21. A ...

Effects of age and viscosity on food transport and breathing –swallowing coordination during eating of two‐phase food in nursing home residents
ConclusionsIn older adults, we observed that swallow initiation function was preserved for thin mixed consistency samples, but breathing–swallowing coupling was diminished. For higher‐viscosity foods, swallow initiation was delayed in this group, but breathing–swallowing coordination was not disturbed, probably as a result of the slow bolus flow into the hypopharynx. Thus, it appears the initial viscosity of mixed consistency food profoundly affects food transport before swallowing as well as breathing–swallowing coordination in nursing home residents. Experience with Esophageal Granular Cell Tumors: Clinical and Endoscopic Analysis of 22 Cases
ConclusionsThe occurrence of esophageal GCTs may be related to esophageal inflammation. As a method for obtaining an accurate pathological diagnosis and for treatment, endoscopic resection should be offered as the primary option for patients with esophageal GCTs.

Use and Misuse of Small Bowel Video Capsule Endoscopy in Clinical Practice
Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) was introduced into the United States in 2000 and has significantly advanced the ability to visualize the small intestinal mucosa by using noninvasive technology. Compared with traditional imaging with small bowel barium imaging, the use of VCE has demonstrated the ability to enhance diagnostic yield in patients with suspected small bowel pathology by approximately 25%–50% in patients with suspected small bowel disorders. Although the use of VCE has been recommended as the next step in patients with obscure gastrointestinal hemorrhage after a negative upper and/or lower endoscopic examinatio...

ASGE Bariatric Endoscopy Task Force systematic review and meta-analysis assessing the ASGE PIVI thresholds for adopting endoscopic bariatric therapies
The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) Technology Committee periodically performs systematic reviews and meta-analyses to evaluate endoscopic technologies in order to determine whether these have met previously established Preservation and Incorporation of Valuable endoscopic Innovations (PIVI) thresholds.

Similar risk of cardiopulmonary adverse events between propofol and traditional anesthesia for gastrointestinal endoscopy: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Even though propofol use for gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures has increased over the past decade, there is a perception that it causes higher cardiopulmonary adverse events. The aim of this study was to compare the sedation related adverse events associated with use of propofol versus non-propofol agents for endoscopic procedures. We also wanted to determine the influence of duration or complexity of the procedures and endoscopist-directed (gastroenterologist) versus non-gastroenterologist directed sedation on the outcomes.

Office hysteroscopy: Identifying risk factors for technique failure and surgical complications
Introduction: Office hysteroscopy is an accessible, accurate, well-tolerated and cost-effective procedure that allows evaluation of the uterine cavity with a low rate of surgical complications. However, it is essential to investigate the risk factors for technique failure and surgical complications in order to accurately select patients who will benefit from its performance in an outpatient setting.
