Expectations About the Effectiveness of Radiation Therapy Among Patients With Incurable Lung Cancer Palliative and Supportive Care
Conclusion Although patients receiving RT for incurable lung cancer believe it will help them, most do not understand that it is not at all likely to cure their disease. This indicates a need to improve communication regarding the goals and limitations of palliative RT.

Religiosity and Beliefs About the Transmission of Cancer, Chemotherapy, and Radiation Through Physical Contact in Saudi Arabia
We examined relationships between religiosity and Saudi cancer patients ’ beliefs about the spread of cancer, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy through close physical contact. Surveyed were 64 patients seen in university oncology clinics. Assessed were beliefs about the spread of cancer and its treatments, along with religious, demographic, social, psychological, an d cancer-related characteristics. Greater religiosity was related to older age, non-Saudi nationality, less anxiety, earlier cancer stage, and greater time since initial diagnosis. Non-significant trends suggested that religious practices were associated wi...

The Influences of Experiential Learning on Radiation Therapy Students' Knowledge, Attitudes and Beliefs about Palliative and End-of-Life Care
Palliative care is often perceived as having a negative stigma because of its historic association in end-of-life care. Although there appears to be a high level of interest by radiation therapy students to become involved with palliative and end-of-life care, students often lack a true understanding of what palliative care is and express a lack of confidence and uneasiness when interacting with palliative and end-of-life patients.

Ethiopian womens sexual experiences and coping strategies for sexual problems after gynaecological cancer treatment: a qualitative study
Conclusion This study has broadened the perspectives on sexuality in the setting of gynaecological cancer and challenged certain commonly held beliefs about sexuality after treatment. Researchers should look into how inclusive sexuality education and training may be better integrated into the training programmes of healthcare workers. More research is needed to learn how partners of women with gynaecological cancer cope with sexual changes after treatment, how the couple as a partnership negotiates changes after treatment, and the facilitators and barriers that healthcare providers face when discussing sexuality issues with patients.

Tongue surface model can predict radiation tongue mucositis due to intensity-modulated radiation therapy for head and neck cancer
We examined whether the dose –volume histogram obtained from the tongue surface model correlates with mucositis severity, and whether it is useful for predicting acute radiation tongue mucositis in patients with head and neck cancer treated with intensity-modulated radiation therapy. Thirty-six patients who received intensity -modulated radiation therapy for head and neck cancer were analysed for acute radiation tongue mucositis according to the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, version 4.0, as well as the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group scoring systems.

Teaching Teens to Get Serious About Sun Safety
What’s Up with Tiffany’s Dad?Medikidz Explain Melanoma By Kim Chilman-Blair and Shawn deLoacheA summer sunburn or a trip to the tanning bed may seem like no big deal to the average teenager. However, overexposing your skin to the harmful UV rays found in sunlight and tanning lights as a teenager can add up to an increased risk of skin cancer as an adult. This year, it is estimated that more than 75,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, and in spite of the serious effects of this disease, many teens will not take the steps they need to protect their skin and r...

Penn study shows how some intestinal cells resist chemotherapy and radiation
(University of Pennsylvania) When treating cancer with chemotherapy and radiation, decisions about dose must walk a fine line between attacking cancerous cells and preserving healthy ones. Overly aggressive radiation therapy to the torso, for example, can damage the epithelial cells that line the intestines, leading to chronic gastrointestinal problems. A new study from the University of Pennsylvania now shows how some intestinal cells can withstand chemotherapy and radiation.

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy and volumetric modulated arc therapy versus conventional conformal techniques at high energy: Dose assessment and impact on second primary cancer in the out-of-field region
Publication date: July–August 2018 Source:Reports of Practical Oncology & Radiotherapy, Volume 23, Issue 4 Author(s): Beatriz Sánchez-Nieto, Maria Romero-Expósito, José Antonio Terrón, Leticia Irazola, Marta Paiusco, Elisabetta Cagni, Caterina Ghetti, Silvano Filice, Francisco Sánchez-Doblado The aim of this work was to estimate peripheral neutron and photon doses associated with the conventional 3D conformal radiotherapy techniques in comparison to modern ones such as Intensity modulated radiation therapy and volumetric modulated arc therapy. Assessment in terms of second cancer incidence ought to peripher...

Treatment of Halitosis and Dysgeusia in A Patient with Cerebellar Hemangioblastoma Who Underwent Radiotherapy
Halitosis refers to exhalation of air offensive to human olfaction, due to the presence of volatile sulfur compounds, through the mouth and/or nose. Dysgeusia manifests as a sensory-perceptive or chemosensory alteration caused by physiological or non-physiological events that modify the perception of taste. Both may present as a sequela of radiotherapy treatment. A 56-year-old man presented with a complaint of halitosis and dysgeusia. The medical history showed that he had cerebellar hemangioblastoma (which is a benign, slow-growing tumor in the cerebellum) controlled with drug therapy in association with radiation therapy...

Comparative analysis of cancer cell responses to targeted radionuclide therapy (TRT) and external beam radiotherapy (EBRT)
The vast majority of our knowledge regarding cancer radiobiology and the activation of radioresistance mechanisms emerged from studies using external beam radiation therapy (EBRT). Yet, less is known about the...
