Traditional, religious, and cultural perspectives on mental illness: a qualitative study on causal beliefs and treatment use
CONCLUSION: Traditional/alternative treatments play an important role in meeting the need for mental health treatment. The findings are relevant for mental health nurses who provide direct to their patients, and for other areas of mental health practice. We also found a lack of knowledge about the causes of mental illness among patients and families. Education should be at the heart of mental health promotion to raise the level of mental health literacy in Indonesia.PMID:36097886 | DOI:10.1080/17482631.2022.2123090

CONCLUSIONS: Because the participants in the current study usually tended to hide the fact that they used CAM, healthcare professionals should be careful about establishing a proper and reassuring relationship with patients and avoid criticizing them for preferring these methods. Patients should be especially informed about the use of phytotherapy, especially garlic, and be warned about its potential risks.PMID:35139489

Conclusions • After controlling for socioeconomic status, the research team found that SSH mothers used less CAM compared to ESH and ESW mothers. Employment of culturally specific measures of CAM use may be necessary to understand fully the differences in CAM use between Spanish- and English-speaking mothers as well as to understand the medical conditions that prompt CAM use. Abstract Epilepsy is the most common neurological condition in sub-Saharan Africa.
