Identification and validation of a fatty acid metabolism gene signature for the promotion of metastasis in liver cancer
Oncol Lett. 2023 Sep 6;26(4):457. doi: 10.3892/ol.2023.14044. eCollection 2023 Oct.ABSTRACTMetastasis is a fatal status for liver cancer, and the identification of an effective prediction model and promising therapeutic target is essential. Given the known relationship between fatty acid (FA) metabolism and the liver, the present study aimed to investigate dysregulation of genes associated with FA metabolism in liver cancer. Bioinformatics analyses were performed on data from patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas database using R software packages. Online public tools such as th...

MicroRNAs and their vital role in apoptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma: miRNA-based diagnostic and treatment methods
Gene. 2023 Sep 14;888:147803. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2023.147803. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most prevalent malignancies with high invasive and metastatic capability. Although significant advances have been made in the treatment of HCC, the overall survival rate of patients is still low. It is essential to explore accurate biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis along with therapeutic procedures to increase the survival rate of these patients. Anticancer therapies can contribute to induce apoptosis for the elimination of cancerous cells. However, dysregulated apoptosis and ...

Fight Aging! Newsletter, September 11th 2023
This article reviews the current regulatory role of miR-7 in inflammation and related diseases, including viral infection, autoimmune hepatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and encephalitis. It expounds on the molecular mechanism by which miR-7 regulates the occurrence of inflammatory diseases. Finally, the existing problems and future development directions of miR-7-based intervention on inflammation and related diseases are discussed to provide new references and help strengthen the understanding of the pathogenesis of inflammation and related diseases, as well as the development of new strategies for clinical interventi...

SUMO1-regulated DBC1 promotes p53-dependent stress-induced apoptosis of lens epithelial cells
Aging (Albany NY). 2023 Sep 7;15. doi: 10.18632/aging.205001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDeleted in breast cancer 1 (DBC1) was initially identified from a homozygously deleted region in human chromosome 8p21. It has been well established that DBC1 plays a dual role during cancer development. Depending on the physiological context, it can promote or inhibit tumorigenesis. Whether it plays a role in lens pathogenesis remains elusive. In the present study, we demonstrated that DBC1 is highly expressed in lens epithelial cells from different vertebrates and in retina pigment epithelial cells as well. Moreover, DBC1 is SUMOy...

Organoids and metastatic orthotopic mouse model for mismatch repair-deficient colorectal cancer
ConclusionsThe established organoids with characteristics of MSI-H cancers can be used to study MMRd cancer biology. The orthotopic model, with its distant metastasis and expressing frameshift peptides, is suitable for evaluating the efficacy of neoantigen-based vaccines or anticancer drugs in combination with other therapies.

Regulating Tumorigenicity and Cancer Metastasis through TRKA Signaling
Curr Cancer Drug Targets. 2023 Sep 4. doi: 10.2174/1568009623666230904150957. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTropomyosin receptor kinase (TRK) A, TRKA, is a specific binding receptor of nerve growth factor (NGF), which plays an essential role in the occurrence and progression of human cancers. TRKA overexpression has been proven to be a powerful carcinogenic driver and has been verified in many tumors. The TRKA receptor kinase domain is over-activated in an NGF-dependent manner, accompanied by activation of downstream signal pathways, such as RAS-MAPK, PI3K-AKT, JAK2-STAT3 pathway, PLC γ pathway, and Hippo pathway, which p...

HPV prevalence and genotype distribution among 38 056 women in Weifang, China: a cross-sectional study
Conclusion This study indicates a high-HPV infection rate and age-specific distribution characteristics of HPV genotype infections, as well as analyses of the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the HPV prevalence, which provides an epidemiological basis for the control and prevention of HPV infection in this region.
