s Kiran D. K. Ahuja A qualitative case study approach with in-depth, semi-structured interviews of key school staff, and student feedback was used to assess a school kitchen and garden program in the regional area of North-West Tasmania, Australia. A detailed program description was produced to conduct a realist evaluation with a Context-Mechanism-Outcome configuration, followed by a program theory evaluation through the construction of a retrospective program logic model. Ensuring Fairness in Medical Education Assessment
This study takes a first step in centering the margins as we as medical educators grow our understanding of the dynamics of promoting fairness in assessment. Future studies should explore feedback with intentional inclusion and involvement of diverse students, teachers, and researchers at every stage of the research process from conceptualization through dissemination and application of the new learning. We thank our participants for their time and candor discussing this sensitive topic and the Group on Educational Affairs for funding our work. Thank you for your time and attention and the focus that you’ll put on th...

KD_ConvNeXt: knowledge distillation-based image classification of lung tumor surgical specimen sections
Introduction: Lung cancer is currently among the most prevalent and lethal cancers in the world in terms of incidence and fatality rates. In clinical practice, identifying the specific subtypes of lung cancer is essential in diagnosing and treating lung lesions. Methods: This paper aims to collect histopathological section images of lung tumor surgical specimens to construct a clinical dataset for researching and addressing the classification problem of specific subtypes of lung tumors. Our method proposes a teacher-student network architecture based on a knowledge distillation mechanism for the specific subtype classificat...

Interprofessional clinical decision-making process in health: A scoping review
CONCLUSION: Decision-making can be based on a willingness of the healthcare organization to promote models based on more shared leadership and to work on professional roles and values. It also requires healthcare professionals trained in the entire continuum of collaborative practices, to meet the unique needs of each patient. Finally, it appears essential to favour the sharing of multiple sources of accessible and structured information. Tools for knowledge formalization should help to optimize interprofessional decision-making in health.IMPACT: The quality of a team decision-making is critical to the quality of care. Int...

Addressing schoolteacher food and nutrition-related health and wellbeing: a scoping review of the food and nutrition constructs used across current research
CONCLUSION: FN constructs are used within interventions and studies that include teachers, with diversity in constructs included and how these terms are defined. The evidence from this scoping review can be used to inform data collection and evaluation in future epidemiological and interventional research that addresses teacher FN-related health and wellbeing.PMID:37700281 | DOI:10.1186/s12966-023-01502-5

Medical device education: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial comparing self-directed learning with traditional instructor-led learning on an anaesthesia workstation
This study investigates whether anaesthesia providers acquire their medical device competencies on an anaesthesia workstation differently via self-directed learning than traditional teacher-led workshops. Methods and analysis This single-centre, non-inferiority, randomised, controlled trial aims to enrol at least 224 anaesthesia providers (ie, certified nurses and physicians). Participants will be randomised to (1) self-directed learning with an integrated learning video (intervention) or (2) a traditional teacher-led workshop (control), for a 1-hour session on a new anaesthesia workstation. The two educational approaches...

Growing Feminization of Migration in Cuba Poses New Challenges
By Luis BrizuelaHAVANA, Aug 25 2023 (IPS) Emigrating from Cuba was an agonizing decision for Ana Iraida. She left behind family and friends; in her backpack she carried many hopes, but also the fear of facing dangers on the journey to the United States. “My salary and that of my second job, as an editor, were insufficient. I wanted to prosper and help my parents. Nor did I want to have a child in a country where it is an ordeal to buy everything from disposable diapers to soap, not to mention food,” the 33-year-old philologist who, like the others interviewed for this story, asked to withhold her last name, tol...
