The Anti-Vax Movement Isn ’t Going Away. We Must Adapt to It
America’s immunization policies are facing a bleak future. Political polarization about vaccine policies is likely to cause outbreaks of previously controlled infectious diseases. If we cannot prevent these disasters, we should pivot our focus towards managing them. Resistance to vaccination is not a new problem, but the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated it. It should be clear by now that neither persuasion nor coercion is sufficient to change the minds or the behavior of people who are determined to refuse vaccines. Education and research cannot defeat coordinated misinformation. And government efforts—at feder...

National vaccination policies for health workers - A cross-sectional global overview
CONCLUSION: National policies for vaccinating health workers were complex and context specific with regional and income-level variations. In Africa, doubts about vaccines grew during pandemic, survey finds
Public confidence in vaccines has declined across sub-Saharan Africa since the COVID-19 pandemic, new research shows. A survey of 17,000 people in eight African nations found that the share of respondents agreeing with the statement that “vaccines are important for children” dropped by up to 20 percentage points from 2020 to 2022. The survey also revealed growing doubts about the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines and other immunizations in some nations and subnational regions. The trends represent “an early warning signal” for efforts to widely vaccinate children and adults, says Charles Shey ...

WHO Regional Director's appeal following occupation of Sudan's health facilities
27 April 2023 – While the news of the ceasefire in Sudan is welcome, the attack on Sudan’s health infrastructure has escalated with the occupation of hospitals in Khartoum and Sudan’s central public health laboratory by parties to the conflict.   The impact of these occupations and the violation of these vital health facilities is being felt by the lack of access by patients to essential health care and in the instant halt to the testing of critically important laboratory samples.     This laboratory is known to contain measles, cholera and multi-drug resistant tuberculo...

Second Dose Measles Vaccination Utilization and Associated Factors in Jabitehnan District, Northwest Ethiopia
CONCLUSION: Second dose measles vaccination utilization in the district was lower than the national target. Maternal education, distances from vaccination site, information about MCV2, and knowledge about immunization were significantly associated variables with second dose measles vaccination utilization. Therefore, in order to increase the utilization of the second dose of the measles vaccine, improved health education and service expansion to difficult-to-reach areas are required.PMID:36923301 | PMC:PMC10009019 | DOI:10.1177/15593258231164042

However, the growing number of new vaccine introductions, vaccination campaigns and increasing administrative costs create logistic and financial challenges, especially in resource-limited settings. Sub-national geographic targeting of vaccination programs is a potential strategy for governments to reduce the impact of infectious disease outbreaks while optimizing resource allocation and reducing costs, promoting sustainability of critically important...
