Detection of Microsatellite Instability in Colorectal Cancer Patients With a Plasma-Based Real-Time PCR Analysis
In this study, we evaluated the results of a newly developed plasma-based real-time PCR kit for the detection of MSI in CRC patients. We assessed a peptide nucleotide acid (PNA) probe-mediated real-time PCR test (U-TOP MSI Detection Kit Plus) that determines MSI status by using amplicon melting analysis of five markers (NR21, NR24, NR27, BAT25, and BAT26) from plasma. Eighty-four CRC patients (46 dMMR and 38 pMMR) with colorectal cancer were analyzed. Abstract Lynch syndrome, previously called hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC), is a major mortality threat. It is an autosomal dominant disease which is caused by a germline mutation in the DNA mismatch repair (MMR), especially in patients aged up to 50 years. Such mutation more frequently occurs in the hMSH2 gene (38-40%) and less frequently in the hMSH6 gene (14-16%). Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) in Lynch syndrome: Report of two cases and discussion on Lynch syndrome behaviour and genetics
We present here two cases of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) in patients affected by Lynch syndrome (LS). The first case is a 47-year-old woman with typical hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) syndrome, reported with endometrial and ovarian carcinoma at age 43, and colon cancer at age 45. The patient underwent total thyroidectomy and central node dissection in 2007, at 47years old, with a histological diagnosis of PTC (T1aN1a).
