10 Quarantine Activities That Don ’ t Involve Watching the News
Captain’s Log. Day eight of quarantine. Work has been busy; I’m grateful for the technology we have to collaborate and continue business during this time. I have walked around the block seven times today. I wonder how many days in a row I can eat frozen jalapeno poppers for lunch before it needs to be addressed. All four cats in my Feline Foreign Language school have refused to make any progress learning French. I refresh my Google search for coronavirus news for the 19th time today. Virginia K-12 schools closed for the remainder of the school year. Olympics postponed. Three week lockdown in South Africa. More charts ...

Keto Diet Last, DASH First In New Diet Rankings
By Sandee LaMotte, CNN (CNN) — If you’re a fan of the “fat-burning” keto diet, you’ll be fired up about its ranking in the 2018 list of best diets from US News and World Report: It’s tied for last, along with the relatively unknown Dukan diet. Both stress eating a ton of protein and minimal carbs, putting the dieter into “ketosis,” when the body breaks down both ingested and stored body fat into ketones, which it uses as energy. People on such diets often deal with fatigue and light-headedness as they adjust to a lack of carbohydrates. Though the experts on the US News and Wo...

Harvard Study: Plant-Based Diet Might Help Prevent Type 2 Diabetes
(CNN) — Sticking to a plant-based diet could help lower your risk of type 2 diabetes, a new paper suggests. Why Frozen Fruit And Veggies May Be Better For You Than Fresh
(CNN) — You are probably aware that you should try to eat as many fruits and vegetables as you can for good health. But what if your favorite fruits are not in season, or the veggies on your Sunday shopping list will be eaten much later in the week? It might be time to favor frozen. In fact, research has revealed that frozen fruits and vegetables can have just as many vitamins &#...

Study: Half Of America Will Be Obese Within 10 Years
(CNN) — If America does not collectively adopt healthier eating habits, over half of the nation will be obese within 10 years. Even worse, one in four Americans will be “severely obese” with a body mass index over 35, which means they will be more than 100 pounds overweight. That alarming prediction, published Wednesday in NEJM, was the result of a study analyzing 26 years of self-reported body mass index (BMI) data from over six million American adults. Considering the challenges of battling weight loss, that’s devastating news for the future health of our nation. “Given how notoriously diffi...

Fruits And Vegetables May Not Prevent Cancer
BOSTON (CBS) – Who hasn’t heard that eating a lot of fruits and vegetables can help you fend off cancer? Dr. Walter Willett, a leading expert on nutrition and health at the Harvard School of Public Health, says your diet may play less of a role in cancer prevention as originally thought. “As better data have come along,” he says, “the benefits for cancer don’t look nearly as impressive.” And fat doesn’t appear to be as bad as once thought for promoting cancer either. “There had been a strong belief that fat in our diet was the major cause of breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer and oth...
