Commenting on the approval of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for use in the UK, UNISON assistant general secretary Christina McAnea said today (Wednesday): “This is welcome news for everyone but it’s particularly important that NHS and care staff, as well as residents, are prioritised. “Employers in the care sector must ensure there’s paid time for staff getting the jab so they’re not left out of pocket for doing the right thing to protect vulnerable people. “With plentiful supplies soon to be a reality, we must make sure the rollout means the maximum number of care workers are offered the vaccine as quickly as...

Fake news and fake science
In a recent editorial, the New York Times wrote about ‘the breakdown of a shared public reality built upon widely accepted facts’. Most Cancer Deaths Continue To Drop
WebMD Medical News By Denise Mann Reviewed by Laura J. Martin, MD Fewer Americans are dying from cancer. This is one main take-away from the latest report on cancer death rates and new diagnoses of cancer in the U.S. This decline is seen among men and women across all major racial and ethnic groups, and for 17 of the most common types of cancer including lung, colon, breast, and prostate cancers. Still, not all of the news from the new report is positive. Rates of death are on the rise from the potentially fatal form of skin cancer, melanoma, in men; uterine cancer in women; and liver and pancreatic cancer in both sexes. ...
