What ’ s Driving the Demand for ADHD Drugs Like Adderall
For at least the last six months, Adderall—the stimulant medication commonly used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)—has been in short supply in the U.S. That seems to be in part because demand is growing as more people are diagnosed with ADHD, a condition that can make it difficult to focus, remember details, control impulses, or sit still. About 8% more people in the U.S. filled a stimulant prescription in 2021 versus 2020, according to federal data. Other studies suggest ADHD diagnoses are increasing across age groups. Why? Leyes is one of many women to conclude that they have ADHD after spending time on the platform. The ADHD hashtag o...

Coronavirus Shutdowns Leave Disabled Students Behind, Parents Say
BOSTON (AP) — At school, Rose Hayes, 8, works with a team of teachers and therapists trained to help with her genetic condition. They set goals for her reading, give her physical therapy to improve her balance and make sure she stays on track. But for the last two weeks, her only connection to school has been through a computer screen. Rose, home amid the coronavirus pandemic that has shuttered schools across the country, now watches lessons her teacher posts to YouTube. Her therapists check in via video chat. In between, she works through daily assignments. Her parents say it’s the best they can expect, but they still...

Youngest Students More Likely To Be Diagnosed With ADHD, Study Finds
This study confirms on a larger scale what other studies have shown on a smaller one. It confirms that there may be developmental confounders in the diagnosis of the condition and that the relative immaturity of young children’s brains can make those that are merely younger at school entry demonstrate behaviors consistent with ADHD.” Christakis was not involved in the research. BOSTON (CBS) – It’s a unique medical school class designed to increase awareness of patients with autism and other intellectual disabilities. And today’s teachers were two teenagers, both on the autism spectrum. “I’m 13 years old. I’m in eighth grade. I really, really like otters, and I have ADHD and a tiny bit of autism,” says Hana. She and her 15-year-old sister Helen have come to a Boston University Medical School classroom to talk with third year students.
