Acquired angioedema due to C1-inhibitor-deficiency (AAE-C1-INH) - a bi-center retrospective study on diagnosis, course and therapy
CONCLUSION: AAE-C1-INH is characterized by late onset swellings mainly involving the face and low C1-INH levels. Diagnostic delay for AAE-C1-INH is further decreasing despite being about 10-fold rarer than HAE. Patients severely affected without underlying condition or no indication for treatment could benefit from off-label therapy.PMID:37716525 | DOI:10.1016/j.jaip.2023.09.003

Predictive factors for decreased baseline quality of life in patients with sinonasal malignancies
ConclusionsOur findings demonstrate a negative impact on baseline QOL in patients with SNMs and suggest sex-specific and symptom-related lower QOL scores, with minimal histopathology association. Anatomical tumor involvement may be more reflective of QOL than T-staging, as orbital and skull base erosion, PNI, and palate lesions are significantly associated with reduced baseline QOL.

Microneedle-assisted transdermal delivery of perfluorotripropylamine-based oxygenated emulsion gel loaded with 5-aminolevulinic acid for enhanced photodynamic therapy of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma
In conclusion, the 5-ALA-PBOEG plus microneedle treatment shows great potential in the fight against CSCC and other skin cancers.PMID:37302770 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejps.2023.106493

The Role of Positron Emission Tomography for the Management of Sinonasal Malignancies: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: In general, and across all types of sinonasal malignancies, PET scan yielded positive results regarding detection and initial staging. It was also considered as the modality of choice for detection of distant metastases, except in the case of sinonasal lymphoma. PET scan's main limit resides in its inability to detect lesions in or close to the metabolic activity of the brain.PMID:37229633 | DOI:10.1177/19458924231177854

A Metagenomic Analysis of the Virome of Inverted Papilloma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma
ConclusionsThere are over 200 HPV types that infect human epithelial cells, of which only a few are known to be high-risk. Our study demonstrated a trend of increasing prevalence of HPV18-E6 that correlated with histologic severity, which is novel and supports a potential role for HPV in the pathogenesis of IP.This article is protected by copyright. 520 A retrospective cohort study of patch testing in oral lichen planus and subsequent diagnosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma
Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a recalcitrant, relapsing autoimmune condition that poses a significant treatment challenge. Allergies to dental metals, fragrances, and additives have been documented in the setting of OLP. Likewise, oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has been reported to evolve in lesions of OLP. We hypothesized that the chronic inflammation of allergy-driven OLP may increase the odds of developing OSCC. Our primary objective was to compare the odds of OSCC between patch test negative and positive patients.
