Mutational landscape and predictors of survival in head and neck mucosal melanoma
Key PointsHead and neck mucosal melanomas have a diverse mutational landscape with low mutational burden.A molecular subset ( ∼13%) has ROS1 mutations, which is an actionable driver mutation.ROS1-mutated patients have improved overall survival likely due to high mutational burden.

Predictive factors for decreased baseline quality of life in patients with sinonasal malignancies
ConclusionsOur findings demonstrate a negative impact on baseline QOL in patients with SNMs and suggest sex-specific and symptom-related lower QOL scores, with minimal histopathology association. Anatomical tumor involvement may be more reflective of QOL than T-staging, as orbital and skull base erosion, PNI, and palate lesions are significantly associated with reduced baseline QOL.

Anti-tumor activity of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole against melanoma skin cancer through triggering allergic reaction and promoting immunity
This study examined the potential roles of TMP-SMX in melanoma skin cancer using an immunodeficient mouse model. TMP-SMX significantly improved the survival rate and reduced the tumor weight and growth and vascular endothelial growth factor levels in melanoma skin cancer of immunodeficient mice. In the forced swimming test, TMP-SMX significantly reduced immobility time compared to the melanoma skin cancer of immunodeficient mice, indicating improved immunity. TMP-SMX significantly increased infiltration of mast cells and release of allergy-related mediators (IgE, histamine, interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5, IL-13, and IL-33) and i...

Recurrence patterns among patients with sinonasal mucosal melanoma: a multi ‐institutional study
ConclusionSNMM is associated with a high recurrence rate and poor survival. Primary treatment of the neck was not associated with reduced recurrence, and immunotherapy for treatment of distant recurrence was associated with increased 12-month PRS.This article is protected by copyright. The Role of Positron Emission Tomography for the Management of Sinonasal Malignancies: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: In general, and across all types of sinonasal malignancies, PET scan yielded positive results regarding detection and initial staging. It was also considered as the modality of choice for detection of distant metastases, except in the case of sinonasal lymphoma. PET scan's main limit resides in its inability to detect lesions in or close to the metabolic activity of the brain.PMID:37229633 | DOI:10.1177/19458924231177854
