Incidence and risk factors for complex regional pain syndrome in radius fractures: meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: The incidence of CRPS in radius fractures was 13.63%. Fractures with greater complexity or greater associated tissue damage, female sex, high BMI, and psychiatric disorders were risk factors for the development of CRPS.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Meta-analysis of cohort and case series studies; II.PMID:37209231 | DOI:10.1007/s00402-023-04909-8

Diagnosis and outcomes of 225 consecutive cases of crps of the hand
CONCLUSIONS: . Unlike CRPS, all patients in this series had a true, diagnosable condition explaining their clinical picture. Most patients who accepted to be operated had a favorable outcome.PMID:36952596 | DOI:10.1097/PRS.0000000000010454

Outcome of functional treatment with a Lucerne Cast in patients with hand fractures: a retrospective case series
CONCLUSION: The LuCa shows to be effective in the functional treatment of both metacarpal and proximal phalangeal fractures with excellent patient-reported outcomes but at a relatively high rate of persisting pain.PMID:36759403 | DOI:10.1007/s00068-023-02234-8

The Current State of Targeted Muscle Reinnervation: A Systematic Review
Conclusion While there is evidence that TMR reduces neuroma-related pain and improves the quality of life for amputees, further outcomes studies are needed to study the patient experience with TMR on a larger scale. Establishing standardized, validated patient-reported outcomes assessment tools is critical to future investigation in this field. Glomus Tumor of the Lower Extremity Previously Misdiagnosed as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome in Close Proximity to a Myxofibrosarcoma: A Case Report
J Am Acad Orthop Surg Glob Res Rev. 2022 Jul 6;6(7). doi: 10.5435/JAAOSGlobal-D-21-00311. eCollection 2022 Jul 1.ABSTRACTComplex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a potentially devastating condition that can result in severe psychological and social morbidity. It is a diagnosis of exclusion, and other pathologic entities must be ruled out first. Glomus tumors are exquisitely painful benign vascular tumors that are most common in the hand and are rarely found in the lower extremity. Here, we present a case of a patient who developed a focus of severe anterior knee pain and tenderness a few months after a car accident that ha...

Successful treatment of acute worsening complex regional pain syndrome in affected dominant right-hand from secondary pathology of new onset third and fourth digit trigger finger
Case Reports Plast Surg Hand Surg. 2022 Apr 27;9(1):123-125. doi: 10.1080/23320885.2022.2063871. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACT65 year old male with preexisting Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) in right dominant hand with sudden onset of right third and fourth digit trigger finger successfully treated with flexor tendon sheath corticosteroid and lidocaine injection resulting in long-term resolution of symptoms without causing widely believed aggravation of CRPS.PMID:35530752 | PMC:PMC9067952 | DOI:10.1080/23320885.2022.2063871

Complex regional pain syndrome following vascular access creation for hemodialysis
J Vasc Access. 2022 Apr 23:11297298221091766. doi: 10.1177/11297298221091766. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPain and swelling of a limb following creation of arterio-venous fistula (AVF) are often attributable to vascular disorders like venous hypertension or limb ischaemia. Here we report the case of a 70-years old man who developed pain and swelling of upper limb distal to the AVF during second post-operative week due to a complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). CRPS is characterized by pain that is disproportionate to the invoking injury, autonomic dysfunction, trophic changes and functional impairment of affected limb. ...

First case report of Pacinian corpuscle hyperplasia following complex regional pain syndrome
Jt Dis Relat Surg. 2022;33(1):249-252. doi: 10.52312/jdrs.2022.512. Epub 2022 Mar 28.ABSTRACTPacinian disorders are exceedingly rare, and the exact pathogenesis is still unknown. The most common symptoms are pain, sensory changes, and a visible or palpable mass, and diagnosis is usually made by pathological examination after the excision of the painful nodule. In this case report, we present the case of a 49-year-old male with Pacinian corpuscle hyperplasia located on the metacarpophalangeal joint, emerging at the same hand of the patient two years after the treatment due to complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). To the be...

Chemotherapy extravasation injuries beyond the immediate stage: A series of 15 cases treated according to a preset surgical algorithm based on time of presentation
This study prospectively validated a preset standardized surgical algorithm based on presentation time in a consecutive series between October 2017 and October 2020. Chemotherapeutic agent, site and extent of injury, type of surgery and outcome at a minimum of 6 months' follow-up were collected. Seven thousand six hundred twelve individuals received chemotherapy during that period; 15 patients suffered extravasation injuries, 2 of whom were referred from outside our hospital. This algorithm distinguished: A) beyond the immediate stage and up to 2 days, treated with saline subcutaneous washout (SCWO) and vacuum-assisted clo...

Complex regional pain syndrome-An interdisciplinary view from the surgical consultation
Chirurg. 2021 Nov 8. doi: 10.1007/s00104-021-01529-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic pain disorders are common and have a substantial impact on the patients' daily life. The specific syndrome of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS, Sudeck's disease) is comparatively rare and characterized by additional sensorimotor, vascular and trophic dysfunctions. The diagnosis is made based on the Budapest criteria and according to clinical symptoms. According to the German national guidelines, multimodal therapy includes drug, rehabilitative and psychosomatic approaches for the reduction of pain and restoration of functionalit...
