Limited Evidence of an Association Between Language, Literacy, and Procedural Learning in Typical and Atypical Development: A Meta-Analysis
Cogn Sci. 2023 Jul;47(7):e13310. doi: 10.1111/cogs.13310.ABSTRACTThe ability to extract patterns from sensory input across time and space is thought to underlie the development and acquisition of language and literacy skills, particularly the subdomains marked by the learning of probabilistic knowledge. Further investigation is warranted to determine if this effect holds during face-to-face interactions using augmentative and alternative communication systems.SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL: https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.22465492.PMID:37156246 | DOI:10.1044/2023_JSLHR-22-00549

Speech auditory brainstem response in audiological practice: a systematic review
ConclusionsSpeech ABR can objectively measure the auditory cues important for speech recognition and has many clinical applications. It can be used as a biomarker for auditory processing disorders, learning disorders, dyslexia, otitis media, hearing loss, language disorders and phonological disorders. S-ABR is an effective procedure that can be used in speech and language evaluations in people with hearing aids or cochlear implant. It may also be of benefit to the aging auditory system's ability to encode temporal cues.
