Pain management in rheumatology research, training, and practice.
Authors: Borenstein DG, Hassett AL, Pisetsky D Abstract The Pain Management Task Force of the American College of Rheumatology published a report in 2010 highlighting pain management as a fundamental aspect of clinical practice, training and research. In the interim, the consideration of pain as a focus of attention of rheumatologists and rheumatology health professionals has become even more challenging than in 2010 because of the epidemic of opiate addiction and overdose death. The characterisation of categories of pain by mechanism (e.g., inflammation, joint degeneration, abnormalities of central pain processing...

Management of Chronic Post‐Chikungunya Rheumatic Disease: The Martinican Experience
Conclusion. The term “chronic CHIK syndrome” covers multiple etiologies. Compliance with the French Society of Rheumatology recommendations, careful history‐taking and serologic verification help avoid errors inherent to the epidemic context and assure early therapeutic intervention for these patients, who should be managed by rheumatologists as early as possible to avoid late treatment onset. Cervical and cervicomedullary spinal cord stimulation for chronic pain: Efficacy and outcomes
Chronic pain is a debilitating condition [8,9]. Over 100 million adults in the United States are estimated to be afflicted, and rates of chronic pain are increasing due to a combination of factors including the obesity epidemic, the aging population, as well as the improved survival rates following traumatic injuries [12,35]. Causes of chronic pain conditions are numerous and include injuries, chronic disease (such as cancer, diabetes), peripheral and/or autonomic nerve disorders (such as complex regional pain syndrome or CRPS) as well as primary pain disorders (such as neuropathic pain, and fibromyalgia) [12].
