Rheumatological Manifestations Associated with Viral Hepatitis B or C
CONCLUSIONS An increased frequency of musculoskeletal manifestations, better than those reported in the medical literature, in patients infected with HBV and HCV was observed.

Vaccination coverage in children with rheumatic diseases.
CONCLUSIONS: Thirty-five percent of our patients remain incompletely vaccinated and thus susceptible to vaccine-preventable diseases. Physicians play a crucial role in the decision to vaccinate. PMID: 31577215 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Primary Sj ögren’s syndrome: Extraglandular manifestations and hydroxychloroquine therapy
AbstractThe use of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in Primary Sj ögren’s Syndrome (pSS) has been assessed in different studies over the last years, with conflicting results regarding its efficacy in sicca syndrome and extraglandular manifestations (EGM). The goal of this study was to compare the incidence rate of EGM in pSS patients with and without HCQ therap y.We performed a multicenter retrospective study, including patients with pSS (European classification criteria) with at least 1  year of follow-up. Subjects with concomitant fibromyalgia, autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, and primary sclerosing cholangit...

S-Adenosylmethionine (SAMe) for Neuropsychiatric Disorders: A Clinician-Oriented Review of Research.
CONCLUSIONS: S-adenosylmethionine holds promise as a treatment for multiple neuropsychiatric conditions, but the body of evidence has limitations. The encouraging findings support further study of SAMe in both psychiatric and comorbid medical illnesses. PMID: 28682528 [PubMed - in process]

Rheumatic manifestations of hepatitis C virus chronic infection: Indications for a correct diagnosis.
Abstract Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a hepato- and lymphotropic agent that is able to induce several autoimmune rheumatic disorders: vasculitis, sicca syndrome, arthralgias/arthritis and fibromyalgia. The severity of clinical manifestations is variable and sometimes life-threatening. HCV infection can mimic many primitive rheumatic diseases, therefore, it is mandatory to distinguish HCV-related manifestations from primitive ones because the prognosis and therapeutic strategies can be fairly dissimilar. The new direct-acting antivirals drugs can help to avoid the well-known risks of worsening or new onset of autoimm...

Abstract 5579: Medication exposures and subsequent development of Ewing sarcoma: a review of FDA adverse event reports
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides a closer look at medication use and underlying disorders in patients who later developed ESFT. While we found no clear causative association between ESFT and prior use of a single product or drug class, many associated drugs were used to treat immune-related disease, and growth or hormonal disturbances. Further studies are needed to better understand possible immune or neuroendocrine abnormalities that may predispose to the later development of ESFT.canres;75/15_Supplement/5579/table1T1Table: Summary of FAERS reports of medication use prior to Ewing Sarcoma Family of Tumor (ESFT) diagnosis,...

Fibromyalgia incidence among patients with hepatitis B infection
ConclusionsThe results of the present study demonstrate that FMS incidence is greater among HBV patients relative to control subjects. However, there were no differences in FMS incidence among the subgroups of HBV diagnoses.

Clinical characteristics and biopsy accuracy in suspected cases of Sjögren¿s syndrome referred to labial salivary gland biopsy
Conclusions: Labial salivary gland biopsy has high sensibility, specificity, positive and negative predictive values for diagnosis of pSS. In the clinical practice, it is useful, especially for those patients with glandular dysfunctions and negative antibodies.

Chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia following immunization with the hepatitis B vaccine: another angle of the ‘autoimmune (auto-inflammatory) syndrome induced by adjuvants’ (ASIA)
This study suggests that in some cases CFS and FM can be temporally related to immunization, as part of ASIA syndrome. The appearance of adverse event during immunization, the presence of autoimmune susceptibility and higher titers of autoantibodies all can be suggested as risk factors. ASIA criteria were fulfilled in all patients eluding the plausible link between ASIA and CFS/FM.

The use of complementary and alternative medicine in an Irish cohort of people with an iatrogenic hepatitis C infection: Results from a health and lifestyle survey.
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that CAM services are used by a high proportion of people with iatrogenic chronic HCV. A more holistic approach to health care, using a biopsychosocial model framework, may better meet the physical and psychological health needs of this group. PMID: 25146073 [PubMed - in process]

Objective evidence that small-fiber polyneuropathy underlies some illnesses currently labeled as fibromyalgia
Summary: Comparing symptoms, examinations, skin biopsies, and autonomic functions in fibromyalgia as opposed to control subjects suggests that approximately half of fibromyalgia patients have previously unrecognized small-fiber polyneuropathy.Abstract: Fibromyalgia is a common, disabling syndrome that includes chronic widespread pain plus diverse additional symptoms. No specific objective abnormalities have been identified, which precludes definitive testing, disease-modifying treatments, and identification of causes. In contrast, small-fiber polyneuropathy (SFPN), despite causing similar symptoms, is definitionally a dise...
