Risk Factors for Breast Cancer-Related Lymphedema: An Umbrella Review
CONCLUSIONS: The currently identified risk factors for BCRL all are innate personal trait-related factors. Future well-designed studies and robust meta-analyses are needed to explore potential associations between behavioral-, interpersonal-, and environmental-related factors and BCRL, as well as the role of genetic variations and pathophysiologic factors.PMID:37725224 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-14277-7

The quality and clinical translation of radiomics studies based on MRI for predicting Ki-67 levels in patients with breast cancer
CONCLUSION: Ki-67 index is a common tumor biomarker with high clinical value. Radiomics is an ever-growing quantitative data-mining method helping predict tumor biomarkers from medical images. However, the quality of the reviewed studies evaluated by the RQS was not so satisfactory and there are ample opportunities for improvement. Open science and data, external validation, phantom study, publicly open radiomics database and standardization in the radiomics practice are what researchers should pay more attention to in the future.ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE: The RQS tool considered the radiomics used to predict the Ki-67 level w...

Quality of evidence supporting the role of acupuncture for breast cancer-related lymphoedema: an overview of systematic reviews and meta-analyses
CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture may be beneficial in improving BCRL. However, due to the identified limitations and conflicting findings, further more prescriptive and rigorous SRs/MAs are required to give strong evidence for final judgments.PMID:37721568 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05419-1

The necessity of proactive measures from healthcare providers highlighted by delayed breast cancer diagnosis due to COVID-19: A case report
Clin Case Rep. 2023 Sep 15;11(9):e7919. doi: 10.1002/ccr3.7919. eCollection 2023 Sep.ABSTRACTKEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: During disasters, multiple factors can cause significant delays in medical visits. Regular patient monitoring, high-risk individual alerts, and telemedicine enhancements can potentially alleviate these issues and ensure timely interventions.ABSTRACT: During the COVID-19 pandemic, a Japanese woman in her 70s delayed her regular breast cancer checkup for over 2 years. During disasters, health priorities tend to decline, necessitating proactive measures from healthcare providers, such as augmenting collaboration ...

Enhanced Photoacoustic Imaging of Urokinase-Type Plasminogen Activator Activity in Tumors
Anal Chem. 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.1021/acs.analchem.3c03305. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhotoacoustic (PA) imaging of urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) activity in vivo holds high promise for early diagnosis of breast cancer. Molecular probes with resisted fluorescence (FL) emission for enhanced PA signals of uPA activity have not been reported. Herein, we proposed a molecular probe Cbz-Gly-Gly-Arg-Phe-Phe-IR775 (Z-GGRFF-IR775) which, upon uPA cleavage, assembled into nanoparticles FF-IR775-NP with quenched fluorescence but enhanced PA signals. Experimental results validated that, upon uPA activation, Z-GGRFF-IR7...

The PML1-WDR5 axis regulates H3K4me3 marks and promotes stemness of estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer
Res Sq. 2023 Sep 8:rs.3.rs-3266720. doi: 10.21203/rs.3.rs-3266720/v1. Preprint.ABSTRACTThe alternative splicing of PML precursor mRNA gives rise to various PML isoforms, yet their expression profile in breast cancer cells remains uncharted. We discovered that PML1 is the most abundant isoform in all breast cancer subtypes, and its expression is associated with unfavorable prognosis in estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancers. PML depletion reduces cell proliferation, invasion, and stemness, while heterologous PML1 expression augments these processes and fuels tumor growth and resistance to fulvestrant, an FDA-approv...
