Overexpression of POFUT1 promotes malignant phenotype and mediates perineural invasion in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma
In this study, in silico analyses referred POFUT1 as a potential oncogene in HNSCC. Further analysis of tumor and normal tissue samples as well as HNSCC cells with quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, Western blot analysis, and immunohistochemistry showed significant overexpression of POFUT1 in HNSCC clinical tumor tissue specimens and cell lines compared to corresponding controls. In vitro investigations revealed that overexpression of POFUT1 promoted phenotypes associated with cancer aggressiveness and its knockdown in HNSCC cells suppressed those phenotypes. Further xenograft experiments demonstrated that P...

Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition status correlated with ultrastructural features, and TP53 mutation in patient-derived oral cancer cell lines
CONCLUSIONS: Cellular migratory properties are associated with cellular ultrastructure, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition status and the status of TP53 mutation in the genome.PMID:37639153 | DOI:10.1007/s11033-023-08720-x

GRP78 is Overexpressed in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Tissues and is Associated with High VEGF Expression in Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Pilot Study
CONCLUSION: GRP78 overexpression was revealed in most of the investigated samples. The positive association between VEGF and GRP78 may indicate the proangiogenic role of GRP78 in lung cancer. Moreover, the positive association between VEGF and CD31 expression levels suggests that VEGF may cooperate with CD31 to promote angiogenesis in NSCLC.PMID:37638596 | DOI:10.2174/1568009623666230418111020

TRIM32 promotes oral squamous cell carcinoma progression by enhancing FBP2 ubiquitination and degradation
Biochem Biophys Res Commun. 2023 Aug 18;678:165-172. doi: 10.1016/j.bbrc.2023.08.030. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aberrant expression of TRIM32, an E3 ubiquitin ligase, has been identified in multiple malignant cancer types. Nevertheless, the functional roles and detailed mechanisms of TRIM32 in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remain to be elucidated. Here, we investigated TRIM32 expression and its functional role in OSCC. TRIM32 expression was consistently elevated in OSCC tissues, particularly in samples from patients with advanced clinical grades. Functionally, silencing TRIM32 dampened OSCC cell growth, migra...

Global comparative transcriptomes uncover novel and population-specific gene expression in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
CONCLUSION: This study provides new insights into population-specific differences in gene expression patterns and their associated pathways in ESCC. Our findings suggest that changes in extracellular matrix (ECM) organization may be crucial to the development and progression of this cancer, and that environmental and genetic factors play important roles in the disease. The novel DEGs identified may serve as potential biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis and treatment.PMID:37641095 | DOI:10.1186/s13027-023-00525-8

Evaluation of programmed cell death ligand 1 expression in a contemporary cohort of penile squamous cell carcinoma and its correlation with clinicopathologic and survival parameters: A study of 134 patients
CONCLUSIONS: Overall, PD-L1 expression is associated with high-grade and metastatic tumors. Lower PD-L1 expression is observed more frequently in HPV-associated (warty or basaloid) subtypes than in other, predominantly HPV-independent types. As a result, PD-L1 positivity, including higher expression, portends lower overall and cancer-specific survival. These data provide a rational for further investigating PD-L1-based immunotherapeutics in PC.PMID:37639681 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqad107
