P16 Expression in Human Breast Carcinoma and its Relationship to Clinicopathological Parameters
CONCLUSION: p16 seems to have a rather significant expression in breast cancer in comparison to normal breast parenchyma. However, among clinicopathological parameters, we found only a direct relationship between lymph node involvement and intensity of p16 expression.PMID:37564443 | PMC:PMC10410420 | DOI:10.4103/abr.abr_180_22

Comparison of clinical outcomes, demographic, and laboratory characteristics of hospitalized COVID-19 patients during major three waves driven by Alpha, Delta, and Omicron variants in Tehran, Iran
CONCLUSIONS: Although the Omicron variant caused less severe disease, in older patients who were hospitalized due to Omicron infection, longer hospital and ICU stays were reported, which could be attributed to their old age. In particular, elderly patients are more vulnerable to severe COVID-19; otherwise, as expected, other laboratory parameters and clinical outcomes were in accordance with differences in pathogenicity and infectivity of these variants.PMID:37565071 | PMC:PMC10410233 | DOI:10.1111/irv.13184

Phytochemicals, essential oil composition and antioxidant activity of Astragalus spp., Phlomis olivieri and Daphne mucronata in habitats of central Iran
This study evaluated secondary metabolites, essential oil compositions, and antioxidant activity in four medicinal plants that originated in Isfahan rangelands. The species were Astragalus verus, Astragalus adscendens, Daphne mucronata, and Phlomis olivieri. Thirty-two genotypes of these species were evaluated for different biochemical traits. Based on the evaluation of EO compounds, GC-MS analysis revealed the total number of identified compounds. These compounds were 25, 22, 12, and 22 for A. adscendens, A. verus, D. mucronata, and P. olivieri, respectively. The dominant compounds were phthalate (59.88%) in A. adscendens...

Comparative Analysis and Identification of Spike Mutations in Iranian COVID-19 Samples from the First Three Waves of Disease
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that developing effective vaccines requires identifying the predominant variants of SARS-CoV-2 in each community.PMID:37564431 | PMC:PMC10410413 | DOI:10.4103/abr.abr_171_22

Molecular identification and biofilm formation of aerobic and anaerobic coinfection bacterial isolated from cystic fibrosis patients in southwest Iran from 2014 to 2022
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, P. aeruginosa was found to be the most frequently isolated bacterium from patients with CF, and many of these bacteria could form biofilms. Additionally, the high prevalence of antibiotic resistance indicates the urgent need for increased attention to antibiotic preparation and patient screening concerning bacterial coinfections and the virulence and adhesion factors of these bacteria. Furthermore, the present study demonstrates that the coinfection of bacteria with high antibiotic resistance and a high capacity for biofilm formation can pose a life-threatening risk to CF patients, mainly due to ...

Association of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) I/D variation with biochemical parameters and oxidative stress markers in systemic lupus erythematosus patients in west of Iran
CONCLUSIONS: Carriers of the DD genotype of ACE gene with higher serum concentrations of neopterin and MDA, and lower PON activity had a high risk to develop SLE, while ID genotype decreased the risk of disease development by 2.22 times compared to II genotype.PMID:37561325 | DOI:10.1007/s11033-023-08685-x

Influence of sexually transmitted infections on the cervical cytological abnormalities among Iranian women: A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: High percentages of the participants with non-HPV STIs and HPV infection had normal cervical cytology. It is advised to use STIs and HPV diagnostic tests along with cytology examinations for cervical cancer screening.PMID:37560071 | PMC:PMC10407913 | DOI:10.18502/ijrm.v21i6.13636

Nitrogen mass balance and uptake velocity for eutrophic reservoirs in the Brazilian semiarid region
This study presented a methodology to perform and validate a TN mass balance to further calibrate a simplified coefficient for TN losses (vf.) in 29 tropical semiarid reservoirs. The study reservoirs were highly productive ecosystems with an average total nitrogen (TN) concentration, accounting for all measurements in all reservoirs, ranging from 0.59 to 3.84 mg L-1. Regarding the production of TN load, the median values ranged from 4.35 to 2,499.43 t year-1 with median of 80.34 t year-1. The TN loads were estimated through an annual mass balance over a 24-year period. The median of the estimates was compared with referenc...

Ovarian Cancer in Iran: National Based Study
CONCLUSION: OC is the 8th most common cancer in Iran, with lower age-specific incidence and better overall survival than East Asia and North America. In Iran, as in Eastern Europe, OC incidence correlated with reduced total fertility rate and population aging. Five and 10-year overall survival rates were 55% and 44%, respectively, higher than the West. This may be because late stage OC patients are excluded from pathology and classified as "undiagnosed" in death certificates or hospitalization files.PMID:37551188 | PMC:PMC10404329 | DOI:10.18502/ijph.v52i4.12453
