Oral health surveys of Traditional Peoples and Communities in Brazil: a scoping review protocol
The objective of this review protocol is to map the available evidence regarding all the oral health surveys of Traditional Peoples and Communities (TPCs) in Brazil. Methods and analysis The review question of the protocol is: ‘What evidence is available on the oral health surveys of Traditional Peoples and Communities in Brazil?’. Observational studies that report oral health surveys of TPC in Brazil will be included. The protocol considered the Problem, Concept and Context strategy to guide data collection, as established by the Joanna Briggs Institute. The search strategy will consider Medical Subject Headi...

Protocol for a systematic review of the associations between inflammatory markers and lung function, muscle force and exercise capacity in people with COPD
Introduction The prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has been on the rise, with acute exacerbation of COPD associated with the highest burden and multiple pulmonary and systemic consequences. People with COPD have been found to have an abnormal response of systemic inflammation. To date, although limited, there are studies that suggest negative associations between inflammatory markers and important clinical outcomes such as exercise capacity and muscle force. This protocol aims to systematically review the evidence for (i) the associations between inflammatory markers and lung function, muscle force...

Mapping the literature on decision regret in patients with non-communicable diseases (NCDs): a scoping review protocol
Introduction Decision regret refers to feelings of remorse or dissatisfaction with a decision made regarding the treatment. Mapping the meaningful aspects of decision regret in patients with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) is necessary to provide a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon and inform the development of effective interventions to address it. For this reason, this protocol aimed to describe the methodological aspects of a scoping review focused on mapping all the meaningful aspects of decision regret in patients with NCDs and provide a conceptual and comprehensive framework of the phenomenon. Methods a...

Systematic review of preoperative and intraoperative colorectal Anastomotic Leak Prediction Scores (ALPS)
Conclusions Poor reporting practices and methodological shortcomings limit wider adoption of published ALPS. Several models appear to perform well in discriminating patients at highest AL risk but all raise concerns over risk of bias, and nearly all over wider applicability. Large-scale, precisely reported external validation studies are required. PROSPERO registration number CRD42020164804.

Clinical course and outcomes in adults with co-occurring hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and hypertension: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Hypertension affects 40%–60% of adults with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), the most common inherited cardiac condition. It can be a diagnostic confounder for HCM, contributing to delayed diagnosis. Clinically, treatment of co-occurring hypertension and HCM poses challenges as first-line and second-line antihypertensive medications are often contraindicated in HCM. The clinical course in adults with hypertension and HCM is also not well understood, and studies examining patient outcomes in this population are equivocal. In this paper, we aim to outline the protocol of a scoping review, a type of liter...

Preferences of women in difficult life situations for a physical activity programme: protocol of a discrete choice experiment in the German NU-BIG project
Introduction The BIG project (‘Bewegung als Investition in die Gesundheit’, ie, ‘Movement as Investment in Health’) was developed in 2005 as a community-based participatory research programme to offer accessible opportunities for physical activity to women in difficult life situations. Since then, the programme has been expanded to eight sites in Germany. A systematic evaluation of BIG is currently being conducted. As part of this effort, we strive to understand the preferences of participating women for different aspects of the programme, and to analyse their willingness to pay. Methods and analys...

Disparities in sport participation of transgender women: a systematic and scoping review protocol
This article describes a review protocol to understand disparities in sport participation of transgender women. Methods and analysis A systematic and scoping review is being conducted. Studies are included if they explore disparities in sport participation (ie, participation rates, real and/or perceived barriers to participation) of transgender women of any age. A search strategy has been developed for PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library and CINAHL. Relevant grey literature will also be scanned. The planned search dates are July and August 2023. Ethics and dissemination This review does not directly involve ...

How is food variety conceptualised and measured as a diet quality indicator in developed settings? Protocol for a systematic scoping review
Discussion This scoping review will help to map, classify and assess the methodological approaches used in the nutrition literature to measure DD as a diet quality indicator. We anticipate a wide range of DD measures and expect to identify the most prevalent DD measures used to assess diet quality. Our findings will inform standardisation to improve future research on this nutritional concept.

What does social cognition look like in everyday social functioning in Huntingtons disease? A protocol for a scoping review to explore and synthesise knowledge about social cognition alongside day-to-day social functioning of people with Huntingtons disease
Introduction Social cognition is problematic in Huntington’s disease (HD). Despite the observations of clinicians and families, there is minimal empirical literature about how it presents in daily life and the impact on social functioning. This protocol forms the basis of a scoping review to synthesise both the quantitative knowledge and qualitative experiences of the HD community so that a visual and narrative map can address what is known and what is not known for the benefit of the community and clinicians and academics alike. Methods and analyses An umbrella scoping review of previous work and a scoping review o...

Interventions for intimate partner violence during the perinatal period: a scoping review protocol
Introduction Globally, the prevalence and incidence of perinatal intimate partner violence (IPV) are well documented and substantiated; however, there is an urgent need to identify interventions to prevent recurrence or revictimisation, and decrease the harms of perinatal IPV. This scoping review is designed to broadly capture all potential interventions for the secondary prevention of IPV, review them in detail, and assess what can reduce revictimisation and foster improvements in both maternal and neonatal outcomes. Methods and analysis With the structure of the Joanna Briggs Institute and Arksey and O’Malley meth...

Evaluations of statistical methods for outlier detection when benchmarking in clinical registries: a systematic review
Conclusions The optimal methods for detecting outliers when benchmarking clinical registry data remains unclear, and the use of different models may provide vastly different results. Further research is needed to address the unresolved methodological considerations and evaluate methods across a range of registry conditions. PROSPERO registration number CRD42022296520.

Reproductive concerns among young adult women with breast cancer: a systematic review protocol
Introduction Reproductive concerns refer to worries about impaired or lost reproductive ability due to disease or/and treatment. Many young female patients with breast cancer experience reproductive concerns because they still desire to have children at the time of diagnosis. Reproductive concerns can impact patients’ treatment decision-making as well as their psychological health and quality of life. Understanding the situation, contributing factors and health-related consequences of reproductive concerns among patients with breast cancer is essential to minimise their impacts. Methods and analysis A systematic rev...

Methods to derive composite indicators used for quality and safety measurement and monitoring in healthcare: a scoping review protocol
Discussion, policy and guidance publications will be included if they discuss any aspect of the methods used in the development of a composite indicator of quality or safety in a healthcare setting. The search period ranges from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2022. Data extraction will capture information on 11 stages of composite indicator development, augmenting a 10-stage framework developed by the European Commission Joint Research Centre. Ethics and dissemination Ethical approval is not required. Review findings will be published in a peer-reviewed journal and presented at scientific conferences.
