Potential association of HSPD1 with dysregulations in ribosome biogenesis and immune cell infiltration in lung adenocarcinoma: An integrated bioinformatic approach
CONCLUSIONS: HSPD1 may play a role in the regulation of ribosome biogenesis and B cell-mediated immunity in LUAD. It could serve as a predictive biomarker for prognosis and immunotherapy response in LUAD.PMID:37694354 | DOI:10.3233/CBM-220442

Inhibiting autophagy to boost antitumor immunity with tetramethylpyrazine-loaded and PD-L1-targeting Liposomal Nanoparticles
Eur J Pharm Sci. 2023 Sep 9:106581. doi: 10.1016/j.ejps.2023.106581. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCancer immunotherapy has been recognized as a revolutionary breakthrough and has yielded impressive results. However, a major challenge facing immunotherapy is its limited efficacy, which may be largely due to the inadequate infiltration of immune cells into the tumor microenvironment (TME). Autophagy inhibition has been identified to enhance the recruitment of immune cells into the tumor by upregulating the expression and secretion of chemokines. Here, we verified a novel autophagy inhibitor tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) from na...

CD160 Signaling Is Essential for CD8+ T Cell Memory Formation via Upregulation of 4-1BB
J Immunol. 2023 Sep 11:ji2200792. doi: 10.4049/jimmunol.2200792. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA better understanding of the regulatory mechanisms governing the development of memory CD8+ T cells could provide instructive insights into vaccination strategies and T cell-based immunotherapies. In this article, we showed that CD160 surface protein is required for CD8+ T cell memory formation. In the response to acute lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus infection in a mouse model, CD160 ablation resulted in the failure of the development of all three memory CD8+ T cell subsets (central, effective, and tissue-resident memory), c...

Toxicity spectrum and risk factors for chemo-immunotherapy in locally advanced or metastatic lung cancer
Clin Exp Immunol. 2023 Sep 11:uxad105. doi: 10.1093/cei/uxad105. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChemo-immunotherapy has become the best first-line treatment for advanced lung cancer patients without oncogenic drivers. However, it may also lead to an increased incidence and severity of treatment-related adverse events. In this retrospective study, lung cancer patients administrated with either anti-PD-1 or anti-PD-L1 treatment plus chemotherapy were included. Data on demographic characteristics, disease characteristics, treatment strategies, laboratory results and clinical outcomes were collected from the Electronic Medical ...

Design and evaluation of α-helix-based peptide inhibitors for blocking PD-1/PD-L1 interaction
In this study, starting from a potential α-helix-rich protein, we designed a series of α-helix-based peptide candidates to block PD-1/PD-L1 interaction. These candidates were first screened using molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations, and then their capacities to inhibit PD-1/PD-L1 interactions and to restore antitumor immune activities were investigated using the HTRF assay, SPR assay, cellular co-culture experiments and animal model experiments. Two peptides exhibited the best anti-tumor effects and the strong ability to restore the immunity of tumor-infiltrating T-cells. Further D-amino acid substitutio...

Clinical practice consensus for the diagnosis and management of melanoma in Taiwan
J Formos Med Assoc. 2023 Sep 8:S0929-6646(23)00290-5. doi: 10.1016/j.jfma.2023.07.016. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMelanoma is rare in Taiwan. Asian melanoma is distinct from Western melanoma because acral and mucosal melanoma accounts for the majority of melanoma cases, leading to distinct tumor behaviors and genetic profiling. With consideration of the clinical guidelines in Western countries, Taiwanese experts developed a local clinical practice consensus guideline. This consensus includes diagnosis, staging, and surgical and systemic treatment, based only on clinical evidence, local epidemiology, and available resour...

Oropharyngeal colostrum immunotherapy and risk reduction of mortality in very low birth weight premature newborns: A clinical trial
CONCLUSION: The OCI proved to be a beneficial intervention, since it reduced the risk of mortality in PTNB with VLBW when compared to the control group.PMID:37690464 | DOI:10.1016/j.jped.2023.07.007

Annals of Surgical Oncology Practice Guidelines Series: Management of Primary Liver and Biliary Tract Cancers
Ann Surg Oncol. 2023 Sep 11. doi: 10.1245/s10434-023-14255-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrimary cancers of the liver and biliary tract are rare and aggressive tumors that often present with locally advanced or metastatic disease. For patients with localized disease amenable to resection, surgery typically offers the best chance at curative-intent therapy. Unfortunately, the incidence of recurrence even after curative-intent surgery remains high. In turn, patients with hepatobiliary cancers commonly require multimodality therapy including a combination of resection, systemic therapy (i.e., targeted therapy, cytotoxic ch...

The prognostic value of expressions of STAT3, PD-L1, and PD-L2 in Ta/T1 urothelial carcinoma before and after BCG treatment
CONCLUSIONS: The success of BCG treatment in NMIBC was not related to PD-L1, PD-L2, and STAT3 expression status, but PD-L1 expression was correlated with both PD-L2 and STAT3 as well as TILs rate, but this correlation was lost after BCG treatment.PMID:37690934 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.08.012
