ctDNA-guided adjuvant treatment after radical-intent treatment of metastatic spread from colorectal cancer-the first interim results from the OPTIMISE study
CONCLUSION: The study was proven to be feasible and continues in the planned large-scale phase II trial. Results from the OPTIMISE study will potentially optimize the adjuvant treatment of patients undergoing radical-intent treatment of mCRC, thereby improving survival and reducing chemotherapy-related toxicity.PMID:37738268 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2259083

Preoperative treatment with mFOLFIRINOX or Gemcitabine/Nab-paclitaxel +/- isotoxic high-dose stereotactic body Radiation Therapy (iHD-SBRT) for borderline resectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma (the STEREOPAC trial): study protocol for a randomised comparative multicenter phase II trial
DISCUSSION: This trial will help define the best neoadjuvant treatment sequence for borderline resectable PDAC and aims to evaluate if a total neoadjuvant treatment integrating iHD-SBRT improves the patients' oncological outcomes.TRIAL REGISTRATION: The study was registered at ClinicalTrails.gov (NCT05083247) on October 19th, 2021, and in the Clinical Trials Information System (CTIS) EU CT database (2022-501181-22-01) on July 2022.PMID:37735634 | DOI:10.1186/s12885-023-11327-x

Brain-computer interface relieves chronic chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: BCI is a promising treatment for CIPN and may have a longer lasting effect than placebo (nonspecific BCI), which is an important consideration for long-term symptom relief. Although scientifically interesting, the ability to separate real from placebo treatment may not be as important as understanding the placebo effects differently from effects of the intervention.PLAIN LANGUAGE SUMMARY: Chemotherapy-induced nerve pain (neuropathy) can be disabling for cancer survivors; however, the way symptoms are felt depends on how the brain interprets the signals from nerves in the body. We determined that the perception...

Comparison of hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy with mFOLFOX vs. first-line systemic chemotherapy in patients with unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma
Conclusion: Our study revealed that HAIC was a safe and effective therapeutic regimen for unresectable iCCA with better intrahepatic tumor control when compared to SC. Meanwhile, patients with single tumor were more likely to benefit from HAIC than SC.PMID:37731737 | PMC:PMC10508288 | DOI:10.3389/fphar.2023.1234342

Identification of a TRP channel-related risk model for predicting prognosis and therapeutic effects of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: We successfully established a highly accurate prognostic model for predicting overall survival and therapeutic effects using TRP channel-related genes.PMID:37733242 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05394-7

Traumatic sigmoid colon rupture due to breast cancer metastasis: a case report
Clin J Gastroenterol. 2023 Sep 21. doi: 10.1007/s12328-023-01859-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe metastasis of breast cancer to the gastrointestinal tract is rare. Herein, we presented the case of an 85-year-old woman who had a history of invasive lobular carcinoma and experienced complete colon rupture due to relatively low-energy trauma. The patient underwent bilateral total mastectomy and axillary dissection following preoperative chemotherapy 6 years ago. She had a local recurrence 2 years after the surgery and underwent chemotherapy. Subsequently, the cancer metastasized to the thoracolumbar area and retroperiton...

Subtype of SCLC Is an Intrinsic and Persistent Feature Through Systemic Treatment
CONCLUSIONS: Subtype of SCLC generally remains the same after acquiring chemotherapy resistance. Plasticity was observed with rare cases switching from NEUROD1-predominant to ASC1-predominant SCLC. Resubtyping is unnecessary for the consideration of novel subtype-specific targeted agents, except cases with NEUROD1-predominant subtype.PMID:37731627 | PMC:PMC10507151 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtocrr.2023.100561

Deuterium Magnetic Resonance Imaging Using Deuterated Water-Induced 2H-Tissue Labeling Allows Monitoring Cancer Treatment at Clinical Field Strength
CONCLUSIONS: Deuterium MRI at 1.5T proved feasibility to track 2H distribution throughout mouse tissues during D2O administration and revealed a higher 2H accumulation in the tumor xenografts. This research demonstrated a promising successful method for preliminary assessment of radiotherapy and chemotherapy of cancer.PMID:37732903 | DOI:10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-23-1635

Aggressive variant prostate cancer: A case report and literature review
CONCLUSION: We should reach consensus definitions of the AVPC and other androgen receptor-independent subtypes of PCA and develop new biomarkers to identify groups of high-risk variants. It is crucial to complete a puncture biopsy of the tumor or metastatic lesion as soon as possible in patients with advanced PCA who exhibit clinical features such as low Prostate-specific antigen levels, high carcinoembryonic antigen levels, and insensitivity to hormones to determine the pathological histological type and to create a more aggressive monitoring and treatment regimens.PMID:37731555 | PMC:PMC10507546 | DOI:10.12998/wjcc.v11.i26.6213
