The Man Who Thinks He Can Live Forever
In a neat little neighborhood in Venice, Calif., there’s a block of squat, similar homes, filled with mortals spending their finite days on the planet eating pizza with friends, blowing out candles on birthday cakes, and binging late-night television. Halfway down the street, there’s a cavernous black modern box. This is where Bryan Johnson is working on what he calls “the most significant revolution in the history of Homo sapiens.”  [time-brightcove not-tgx=”true”] Johnson, 46, is a centimillionaire tech entrepreneur who has spent most of the last three years in pursuit of a si...

Chemical composition, antioxidant activity and toxicity of the essential oil from < em > Clinopodium mexicanum < /em >
This study presents the first evaluation of the antioxidant activity of the essential oil (EO) obtained through hydrodistillation of the aerial parts of CM. NaCl, CaCl2, and Tween 20 were used as additives and the yield, chemical composition, and toxicity of the EO were evaluated. The findings revealed that the highest yield of EO was obtained through hydrodistillation without additives, and the additives significantly influenced the antioxidant activity of the EO. The main components of the EO were found to be pulegone and menthone. The toxicity of the EO was determined using the brine shrimp assay, with an LD50 of 32 mg/...

Fast Heartburn Relief Without Deadly Drugs
Since gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) was first identified in the early 1930s, the number of people experiencing heartburn has increased substantially. In fact, one study shows that in just 10 years, the number of people experiencing:1 Any GERD symptoms increased by 30% Symptoms at least once a week increased by 47% Severe GERD increased by 24% While these numbers are concerning, I’ll admit they’re not surprising considering the typical American diet. Our nutrition-less, grain-based diet of carbohydrates and starches has wrecked our health and made our bodies behave in ways nature never intended. This has led ...

New insights into the physiology and pathophysiology of the atypical sodium leak channel NALCN
Physiol Rev. 2023 Aug 24. doi: 10.1152/physrev.00014.2022. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCell excitability and its modulation by hormones and neurotransmitters involve the concerted action of membrane proteins, especially ion channels. Unique complements of co-expressed ion channels are exquisitely balanced against each other in different excitable cell types, establishing distinct electrical properties that are tailored for diverse physiological contributions, and dysfunction of any component may induce a disease state. A crucial parameter controlling cell excitability is the resting membrane potential (RMP) set by extra-...
