Preparation of pyrolysis products by catalytic pyrolysis of poplar: Application of biochar in antibiotic wastewater treatment and energy storage
Chemosphere. 2023 Jul 15:139519. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139519. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPoplar waste is acted as feedstock to produce renewable biofuel and green chemical by catalytic pyrolysis using ferric nitrate and zinc chloride as additive. The additive contributes to the generation of furfural in bio-oil. Additive promotes the generation of H2 and inhibits the generation of CO with bio-gas heating value of 12.16 MJ (Nm3)-1. Biochar exists ZnO and Fe3O4 with large surface area, which could be used as absorbent and photocatalyst for tetracycline and ciprofloxacin removal. The tetracycline and ciprofloxac...

Intensive adsorption of tetracycline by cobalt oxide quantum dots-loaded mineral carbon
Bioresour Technol. 2023 Jun 20:129373. doi: 10.1016/j.biortech.2023.129373. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSpent bleaching earth (SBE), a waste by-product produced from the bleaching step of edible oil by montmorillonite clays (bleaching earth), causes serious public health and environmental problems. Accordingly, in this study, SBE was pyrolyzed to yield mineral carbon materials (SBE@C) and cobalt oxide (Co3O4) was loaded to improve the active site of those materials. Due to the carrier function of SBE@C, ultra-fine Co3O4 quantum dots (QDs) (2-6 nm) were homogeneously and robustly immobilized onto SBE@C. The obtained adsor...

Phytotoxic Effects of Tetracycline and its Removal Using Canna indica in a Hydroponic System
This study aimed to investigate the potential of Canna indica, an indigenous wetland plant species in India, for tetracycline-induced oxidative stress, antioxidant activity, and removal of antibiotics from nutrient media and domestic wastewater. Canna indica exhibited a removal rate of approximately 91.05 ± 0.18% for tetracycline in antibiotic containing nutrient media and 87.97 ± 0.39% in domestic wastewater. Notably, the exposure to the drug during the 30 d reaction period led to the accumulation of reactive oxygen species in the plant tissues. Consequently, there was a decline in chlorophyll content, alongside an incr...

Essential Oil of Zingiber cassumunar Roxb. and Zingiber officinale Rosc.: A Comparative Study on Chemical Constituents, Antibacterial Activity, Biofilm Formation, and Inhibition of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Quorum Sensing System
Chem Biodivers. 2023 May 18:e202201205. doi: 10.1002/cbdv.202201205. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPseudomonas aeruginosa can regulate its pathogenicity via quorum sensing (QS) system. Zingiber cassumunar and Z. officinale have been used for the treatment of infectious diseases. The study aimed to evaluate and compare the chemical constituents, antibacterial, and QS inhibitor of Z. cassumunar essential oils (ZCEO) and Z. officinale essential oils (ZOEO). The chemical constituent was analysed using GC-MS. Broth microdilution and spectrophotometry analysis were used to evaluate their antibacterial and QS inhibitor activities...

Fight Aging! Newsletter, January 23rd 2023
This study explored the association between tap drinking water and longevity in Cilento, Italy, to understand whether trace elements in local drinking water may have an influence on old, nonagenarian, and centenarian people and promote their health and longevity. Data on population and water sources were collected through the National Demographic Statistics, the Cilento Municipal Archives, and the Cilento Integrated Water Service. Ordinary least squares (OLS) regression and a geographically weight regression (GWR) model were used to study the spatial relationship between the explanatory and outcome variables of long...

Synthesis and effect of CoCuFeNi high entropy alloy nanoparticles on seed germination, plant growth, and microorganisms inactivation activity
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2022 Nov 2. doi: 10.1007/s11356-022-23918-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTImplementation of nanotechnology in agriculture is of interest primarily to improve the growth and productivity of crops, and to minimize the use of traditional expensive chemical fertilizers. This work presents a simple energy-conservative approach for the synthesis of CoCuFeNi high entropy alloy nanoparticles (HEA-NPs) capable of forming a stable suspension with a concentration of 0.3 g/L. The size, composition, and morphology of the nanoparticles were analyzed by XRD, SEM, TEM, and EDS. Obtained HEA-NPs were characteri...
