Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 1959: Fitness Determinants of Influenza A Viruses
ins Influenza A (IAV) is a major human respiratory pathogen that causes illness, hospitalizations, and mortality annually worldwide. IAV is also a zoonotic pathogen with a multitude of hosts, allowing for interspecies transmission, reassortment events, and the emergence of novel pandemics, as was seen in 2009 with the emergence of a swine-origin H1N1 (pdmH1N1) virus into humans, causing the first influenza pandemic of the 21st century. While the 2009 pandemic was considered to have high morbidity and low mortality, studies have linked the pdmH1N1 virus and its gene segments to increased disease in humans and animal mod...

Essential Oils from Different Parts of Magnolia laevifolia: Chemical Constituents and Insecticidal Activities against Liposcelis bostrychophila
This study extracted EOs from leaves, flowers, carpels and seeds of M. laevifolia. The common and major compound of EOs was isocapnell-9-en-8-one, which was present at 17.7 to 91.6% in these four parts We found no regular pattern in the composition of EO in terms of parts and collection time according to principal component analysis. The contact and repellent activities of EOs against the booklouse were then conducted. Leaves and flowers' EOs collected in the flowering stage had the best contact toxicity. The percent repellency values of the EOs from different parts of M. laevifolia reached above 80% after 2 and 4 h exposu...

The genomes of the yaws bacterium, < i > Treponema pallidum < /i > subsp. < i > pertenue < /i > , of nonhuman primate and human origin are not genomically distinct
Conclusion/SignificanceOur data show that NHPs are infected with strains that are not only similar to the strains infecting humans but are genomically indistinguishable from them. Although interspecies transmission in NHPs is a rare event and evidence for current spillover events is missing, the existence of the yaws bacterium in NHPs is demonstrated. While the low risk of spillover supports the current yaws treatment campaign, it is of importance to continue yaws surveillance in areas where NHPs are naturally infected withTPE even if yaws is successfully eliminated in humans.

In Silico Prediction of Selected Bioactive Compounds Present in Alpinia elegans (C.Presl) K.Schum Seed Oil as Potential Drug Candidates Against Human Cancer Cell Lines
CONCLUSION: The binding energy indicated that the ligands could securely dock to the receptors, thus suggesting that interaction between the ligands and receptors was stable. Results have shown that the compounds are promising candidates against human cancer cell lines by inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis.PMID:37642045 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2023.24.8.2601
