Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 8038: An Access Control Scheme Based on Blockchain and Ciphertext Policy-Attribute Based Encryption
i Sihui Liu Ciphertext policy–attribute-based encryption (CP-ABE), which provides fine-grained access control and ensures data confidentiality, is widely used in data sharing. However, traditional CP-ABE schemes often choose to outsource data to untrusted third-party cloud service providers for storage or to verify users’ access rights through third parties, which increases the risk of privacy leakage and also suffers from the problem of opaque permission verification. This paper proposes an access control scheme based on blockchain and CP-ABE, which is based on multiple authorization cent...

Titanium mesh as the anode of electrochemically active biofilm sensor for improved sensitivity in water toxicity real-time early-warning
Biosens Bioelectron. 2023 Sep 15;241:115692. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2023.115692. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs serious water ecological pollution caused by toxicant leakage occurs frequently, early-warning for toxicity presented in water environment attracts increasing attentions as it saves time to retain water safety and human health. Electrochemically active biofilm (EAB) sensor is a promising device for in situ real-time water toxicity early-warning. To improve the sensitivity of EAB sensor particularly for low-concentration toxicity warning, this study employed titanium mesh (TiM) as the anode to construct an EAB sens...

Progress advances in the production of bio-sourced methionine and its hydroxyl analogues
Biotechnol Adv. 2023 Sep 19:108259. doi: 10.1016/j.biotechadv.2023.108259. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe essential sulphur-containing amino acid, methionine, is becoming a mass-commodity product with an annual production that exceeded 1,500,000 tons in 2018. This amino acid is today almost exclusively produced by chemical process from fossil resources. The environmental problems caused by this industrial process, and the expected scarcity of oil resources in the coming years, have recently accelerated the development of bioprocesses for producing methionine from renewable carbon feedstock. After a brief description of ...

Comparative life cycle assessment of anaerobic digestion, lagoon evaporation, and direct land application of olive mill wastewater
Bioresour Technol. 2023 Sep 16:129778. doi: 10.1016/j.biortech.2023.129778. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOlive mill wastewater is a prominent waste stream in the Mediterranean countries, with its uncontrolled disposal in water recipients causing significant environmental issues. Anaerobic digestion has been extensively studied for the treatment of various agricultural waste streams. The scope of the present study was the environmental evaluation of the anaerobic digestion of three-phase olive mill wastewater for energy production in an anaerobic bioreactor. Regarding the environmental assessment of the process, the result...

Facile prepared microfluidic chip for multiplexed digital RT-qPCR test
This study presents a facile digital microfluidic chip driven by centrifugal force for digital PCR analysis. Interestingly, regardless of the hydrophilicity or hydrophobicity of the inner chip surface, an efficient digitization process can be achieved. PCR reagents introduced into the inlet can be allocated to 9600 microchambers and subsequently isolated by the immiscible phase (silicone oil). The centrifugal priming approach offers a facile means to achieve high-throughput analysis. The design was further employed for the quantification of nucleic acids using digital PCR. The calculated result exhibited a strong correlati...

Identifying the role of array electrodes in improving the compost quality of food waste during electric field-assisted aerobic composting
In this study, a novel array-based electric field-assisted aerobic composting (Pin-EAC) process was tested on food waste compost. Pin-EAC increase the composting temperature to 69.3 °C, and improved the germination index by 15%. The Pin-EAC took at least 40% less time to reach the standard compost maturity. The fluorescent spectroscopy results showed that Pin-EAC could increase humic acid and fulvic acid by 33% and 37%, respectively. Pin-EAC could increase the diversity of thermophilic bacteria during composting. The co-occurrence network shown that Pin-EAC are more closely related to oxygen and temperature. This work has...

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 7858: Soft Sensing of LPG Processes Using Deep Learning
This study investigates the integration of soft sensors and deep learning in the oil-refinery industry to improve monitoring efficiency and predictive accuracy in complex industrial processes, particularly de-ethanization and debutanization. Soft sensor models were developed to estimate critical variables such as the C2 and C5 contents in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) after distillation and the energy consumption of distillation columns. The refinery’s LPG purification process relies on periodic sampling and laboratory analysis to maintain product specifications. The models were tested using data from actual ...

The effect of α-tocopherol incorporated into different carriers on the oxidative stability of oil in water (O/W) emulsions
Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2023 Sep 7;230:113536. doi: 10.1016/j.colsurfb.2023.113536. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe effect of the antioxidant activity of α-tocopherol incorporated into different carriers on the oxidative stability of oil in water emulsion was investigated. The antioxidant activity of free and encapsulated α-tocopherol was measured in a 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl reaction. Apart from α-tocopherol micelles, the samples showed similar antioxidant activity. The number of primary oxidation products in the emulsion with tocopherol liposomes and niosomes was lower than in the emulsion with micelles...
