Pain-related stigma in patients with breast, colon, prostate or lung cancer : Results of a bicentric register-based cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings support the assumption that the experience of pain can have an impact on the perceived stigmatization of cancer patients. Depression might influence the perceived stigmatization. Therefore, this group of patients should receive special attention and psycho-oncological care in clinical practice. Further research on the course and mechanisms of action of pain-related perceived stigmatization is also required.PMID:37710022 | DOI:10.1007/s00482-023-00752-3

Comorbidity in patients with Lichen sclerosus: a retrospective cohort study
This study confirmed the association between LS and vulvar cancer (OR = 17.4; 95% CI 12.1-25.3), penis cancer (OR = 9.1; 95% CI 4.3-18.9), prostate cancer (OR = 2.0; 95% CI 1.6-2.4) and breast cancer (OR = 1.6; 95% CI 1.4-1.8). LS was also associated with Crohn´s disease (OR = 2.0; 95% CI 1.6-2.6) and diabetes mellitus type 1 (OR = 1.9; 95% CI 1.6-2.1). The present study revealed novel important data regarding the association of LS with cancer and autoimmune diseases, emphasising the importance of sufficient treatment and follow-up of patients with LS. However, future studies are needed to confirm these results and the po...

Expression of microRNA-379 reduces metastatic spread of prostate cancer
DiscussionTaken together, our in vitro and in vivo functional assays support a role for miR-379 as a tumour suppressor. A potential mechanism is unravelled whereby miR-379 deregulation in PCa cells affects the secretion of GDF-15 from osteoblasts which in turn facilitates the metastatic establishment in bone. Our findings support the potential role of miR-379 as a therapeutic solution for prostate cancer.

Androgen deprivation therapy caused a drastic proliferation of B-cell lymphoma with IgG4-related disease in patients with prostate cancer: a case report
CONCLUSION: This case is the first report of clinical significance regarding the crucial role of estrogen and estrogen receptor β in malignant lymphoma in a patient with IgG4-related disease. Our report aims to raise awareness of the need to carefully select treatment options for prostate cancer patients with IgG4-related disease or lymphoma.PMID:37688628 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05292-y

SpaceOAR hydrogel distribution and early complications in patients undergoing radiation therapy for prostate cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Transperineal hydrogel placement separates the prostate from the rectum with a symmetrical distribution in the majority of cases prior to radiation therapy with a low rate of rectal wall injection and immediate complications.ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE: SpaceOAR hydrogel can be safely injected into radiation naive patients with low or intermediate-risk organ-confined prostate cancer. The spacer separates the prostate from the rectum with a symmetrical distribution in the majority of cases prior to radiation therapy.PMID:37660394 | DOI:10.1259/bjr.20220947

Pain Outcomes in Patients with Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer Treated with 223Ra: PARABO, a Prospective, Noninterventional Study
Conclusion: 223Ra reduced pain in patients with mCRPC and symptomatic bone metastases, particularly in patients who received 5–6 injections. The extent of metastatic disease did not impact pain response.

CT-guided Transgluteal Prostate Fiducial Marker Insertion for Localized Radiation Therapy
ConclusionTransgluteal CT-guided fiducial marker implantation into the prostate is an alternative method to transperineal and transrectal approaches. In this technique, the risk of septic complications is minor, and general anesthesia is not required. Thus, transgluteal CT-guided marker insertion is a feasible and well-tolerated method for image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) in patients with prostate cancer.

Ultrasound Guided, Freehand Transperineal Prostate Biopsy: An Alternative to the Transrectal Approach
CONCLUSIONS: The use of ultrasound guided freehand transperineal prostate biopsy for the suspicion or surveillance of prostate cancer is feasible and safe. The results were encouraging with respect to the primary outcome measurements. Ultrasound guided freehand transperineal prostate biopsy with the patient under local anesthesia is currently under investigation. Large, prospective, randomized, multiple operator studies to evaluate the comparative effectiveness of freehand transperineal prostate biopsy and transrectal ultrasound guided biopsy techniques are recommended.PMID:37592459 | DOI:10.1016/j.urpr.2015.05.007

Metastatic Prostate Adenocarcinoma Masquerading as Invasive Fungal Sinusitis
Ear Nose Throat J. 2023 Jul 28:1455613231189137. doi: 10.1177/01455613231189137. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 58 year old male with a history of prostate adenocarcinoma presented with diplopia, severe headaches, and eye pain, consistent with sinusitis. Imaging was concerning for invasive fungal sinusitis (IFS) and an urgent ENT consultation was requested. Endoscopic sinus surgery was performed revealing metastatic prostate adenocarcinoma to the sinuses and anterior cranial fossa. The distinctive imaging features in this case are very useful when considering the divergent management options of IFS and metastatic sinus di...
