Sizzling Fat —Curative Endoscopic Resection of a Giant Lipoma Causing Colo-Colic Intussusception
We report the case of a 78  years-old woman with abdominal pain, constipation, and bleeding due to a giant lipoma of the sigmoid colon causing intussusception. After an initial diagnostic colonoscopy, the patient underwent an endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) without complications. Even if surgery is traditionally the prima ry therapeutic approach for giant colonic lipomas, selected cases can be successfully treated with EMR.

Targeting the microenvironment in the treatment of arteriovenous malformations
AbstractExtracranial arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are regarded as rare diseases and are prone to complications such as pain, bleeding, relentless growth, and high volume of shunted blood. Due to the high vascular pressure endothelial cells of AVMs are exposed to mechanical stress. To control symptoms and lesion growth pharmacological treatment strategies are urgently needed in addition to surgery and interventional radiology. AVM cells were isolated from three patients and exposed to cyclic mechanical stretching for 24  h. Thalidomide and bevacizumab, both VEGF inhibitors, were tested for their ability to prevent th...

An audit of post ‐operative complications following oral surgery procedures over a 3‐month period at the Eastman dental hospital, London
ConclusionPost-operative complications can occur following a range of procedures and can lead to significant morbidity. Clinicians should consider the likelihood of complications occurring when planning treatment as well as early recognition. Future auditing could consider medical co-morbidities of patients and potential influences of this on developing complications.

Comparison of the efficacy and safety of different surgical procedures for patients with hemorrhoids: a network meta-analysis
ConclusionCurrent evidence suggests that L is best at reducing mean operative time and intraoperative bleeding, T-S is best at reducing mean length of stay, TST has the shortest time to first defecation, STARR is best at reducing recurrence rates, PPH is best at reducing postoperative anal stricture, and F is best at reducing postoperative pain after 24  h.

The HELLP syndrome: clinical issues and surgical management. A Case Experience
CONCLUSION: Short interval between diagnosis and management may enhance the feto-maternal survival rate and prevent further morbidity or mortality. The choice of laparotomy and hepatic packing has proved to be a viable option in patients with unstable vital signs and is feasible even in limited resource settings.KEY WORDS: HELLP syndrome, Liver hematoma rupture, Packing.PMID:37724665

Adrenal hemorrhage and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction: an antiphospholipid syndrome dilemma
Reumatismo. 2023 Sep 18;75(3). doi: 10.4081/reumatismo.2023.1584.ABSTRACTAntiphospholipid syndrome (APS) can affect different organ systems, including the heart and adrenal glands. Despite being known for its prothrombotic characteristics, APS can have serious bleeding complications. Occasionally, thrombotic and bleeding episodes can present simultaneously in an APS patient. Whenever these events co-occur, resuming anticoagulation becomes a topic of debate. As such, we present the case of a 43-year-old male with triple positive antiphospholipid antibodies, indicating APS, who presented with chest pain. Anticoagulants were ...

Long-term outcomes of prophylaxis with a recombinant factor VIII Fc or recombinant factor IX Fc in patients with hemophilia previously treated on demand
CONCLUSIONS: Findings add to existing evidence and demonstrate the clinical and HRQoL benefits of switching patients from on-demand treatment to rFVIIIFc/rFIXFc prophylaxis.PMID:37720484 | PMC:PMC10502440 | DOI:10.1016/j.rpth.2023.102163

Transinguinal preperitoneal (TIPP) versus Lichtenstein for inguinal hernia repair: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionTIPP may be a valuable technique for inguinal hernias. It was associated with lower chronic pain, and paresthesia when compared to Lichtenstein technique. Further long-term randomized studies are necessary to confirm our findings.Study registration A review protocol for this meta-analysis was registered at PROSPERO (CRD42023434909).
