Multimodal Analgesia in Pediatric Cancer Pain Management: A Retrospective Single-Center Study
Conclusions The pain level that pediatric cancer patients endure critically influences their and their family's quality of life. The fact that opioid-related adverse effects associated with pediatric pain management occur far less frequently than previously thought may help prevent opiophobia. Effective and safe analgesia can be provided with multimodal analgesia to manage pediatric cancer pain.PMID:37720121 | PMC:PMC10501176 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.45223

Use of opioids among pregnant women 1997-2016: A Danish drug utilization study
CONCLUSIONS: Overall use of opioids was stable from 2007 to 2016. This covers a decline in the use of codeine, but a 3-fold increase in tramadol. The number of pregnant women who continued use throughout pregnancy decreased, while OMEQ among persistent users increased. The real-world data suggest an unmet need of specific focus in local Danish Outpatient Clinics and Multidisciplinary Pain Centers both pre-conceptionally and during pregnancy.PMID:37683461 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejogrb.2023.08.375

Evidence-based clinical practice guideline for the pharmacologic management of acute dental pain in children: A report from the American Dental Association Science and Research Institute, the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, and the Center for Integrative Global Oral Health at the University of Pennsylvania
Conclusions and practical implications: Nonopioid medications, specifically nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and naproxen alone or in combination with acetaminophen, are recommended for managing acute dental pain after 1 or more tooth extractions (that is, simple and surgical) and the temporary management of toothache in children (conditional recommendation, very low certainty). According to the US Food and Drug Administration, the use of codeine and tramadol in children for managing acute pain is contraindicated.
