The Black Box of Patient Education: An Expert Consultation on Patient Education Interventions and Strategies for the Management of Subacromial Pain Syndrome
CONCLUSION: The consultation confirmed and expanded the knowledge from the literature by adding knowledge that emerged from the experts' practical experience. It resulted in the development of preliminary statements on structured patient education interventions and management strategies for SAPS. These emerging statements are, to our knowledge, the first to inform patient education specifically as it relates to the management of SAPS taking into account psychosocial and contextual factors.PMID:37736407 | PMC:PMC10510546 | DOI:10.3138/ptc-2022-0123

Opioid Prescribing Habits of Emergency Department Providers in Response to an Educational Intervention
CONCLUSION: Overall, the educational intervention on the topic of opioid prescribing guidelines did not have the expected impact on amounts of opioids administered or prescribed during the study period. Total opioids utilized and opioids prescribed did not vary between the pre- and post-intervention groups overall, by subset diagnosis, or by provider. There was, however, an increase in utilization of non-opioid treatments that could be indicative of a partial response to the educational intervention. This study showed that long-term effects of education regarding recommended opioid utilization might be less effective than ...

Gender-specific results of the Dresden children and adolescents headache program DreKiP
We examined gender differences in the outpatient multimodal Dresden Child and Adolescent Headache Program DreKiP.METHODS: We treated 140 patients with primary headache in a 15-hour structured group program. At baseline (T0) and six (T1) and twelve months (T2) after the end of the program, data on headache-related limitation of daily activities (PedMIDAS) as well as headache frequency, intensity, and pain-related disability (P-PDI) were collected. Retrospectively, these data were analyzed separately for girls and boys.RESULTS: For 91 patients (9-19 years, median = 15; 71.4 % female) data were available for at least two meas...

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS ®) Consensus Recommendations for Neonatal Perioperative Pain Assessment, Education, and Management
Background: Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS ®) guidelines have been successfully used in a variety of adult and pediatric surgical specialties. However, neonates have unique physiological and social perioperative needs which warrant specialized protocols. We developed neonatal pain assessment, education, and management consensus recommendati ons to inform future neonatal guidelines, enhance quality of care, and improve perioperative pain management for neonates.

Association of participants who screened positive for night eating syndrome with physical health, sleep problems, and weight status in an Australian adult population
CONCLUSIONS: Several physical health problems were found to be significantly associated with the spNES group including sleep problems, increased BMI, increased levels of pain and lower self-reported physical health-related quality of life. Consequently, future research exploring the complex interaction between NES and these medical conditions may provide further insight into the diagnosis, screening tools and management of NES. Additionally, this study highlights the need for future studies which use larger population-based samples.LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level III. Evidence obtained from well-designed cohort or case-control an...

Which psychological and psychosocial constructs are important to measure in future tendinopathy clinical trials? A modified international Delphi study with expert clinician/researchers and people with tendinopathy
J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2023 Sep 20:1-29. doi: 10.2519/jospt.2023.11903. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: to identify which psychological and psychosocial constructs to include in a core outcome set to guide future clinical trials in the tendinopathy field. DESIGN: modified International Delphi study. METHODS: In three online Delphi rounds, we presented 35 psychological and psychosocial constructs to an international panel of 38 clinician/researchers and people with tendinopathy. Using a 9-point Likert scale (1 - not important to include, 9 -critical to include), consensus for construct inclusion required ≥70%...

Pain Education and Knowledge (PEAK) Consensus Guidelines for Neuromodulation: A Proposal for Standardization in Fellowship and Training Programs
J Pain Res. 2023 Sep 13;16:3101-3117. doi: 10.2147/JPR.S424589. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe need to be competent in neuromodulation is and should be a prerequisite prior to completing a fellowship in interventional pain medicine. Unfortunately, many programs lack acceptable candidates for these advanced therapies, and fellows may not receive adequate exposure to neuromodulation procedures. The American Society of Pain and Neuroscience (ASPN) desires to create a consensus of experts to set a minimum standard of competence for neurostimulation procedures, including spinal cord stimulation (SCS), dorsal root ganglion stimula...

Asylum seekers' self-reported health conditions in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 2010 to 2017
This study aimed to analyze the self-reported health conditions of asylum seekers in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro from 2010 to 2017. This is a cross-sectional study with secondary data. Data were collected from asylum application forms at the Brazilian National Committee for Refugees (Conare) from 2010 to 2017 and from social interviews in the Archdiocesan Caritas of Rio de Janeiro (Cáritas/RJ). The prevalence rates of health conditions, their respective 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) and odds ratio (OR) were calculated in a simple logistic regression model according to sociodemographic and migration variables. A Randomized, Controlled Neuroimaging Trial of Cognitive ‐Behavioral Therapy for Fibromyalgia Pain
ConclusionOur results suggest clinically important and CBT-specific associations between somatosensory/motor- and salience-processing brain regions and the default mode network in chronic pain. These patterns of connectivity may contribute to individual differences (and treatment-related changes) in somatic self-awareness. CBT appears to provide clinical benefits at least partially by reducing pain-related catastrophizing and producing adaptive alterations in default mode network functional connectivity.
