The single assessment numeric evaluation correlates with the western ontario rotator cuff score in non-traumatic shoulder disease
This study demonstrates a moderate correlation between the WORC index score and the SANE score in rating the disability of patients with atraumatic RC disease. The SANE score is applicable in research and clinical practice and is for the patient and the researcher an almost no time consuming PROM.PMID:37295002 | DOI:10.52628/89.1.11240

Long-term follow-up in a single-bundle arthroscopic acromioclavicular joint reconstruction after Rockwood III to VI dislocation
Acta Orthop Belg. 2023 Mar;89(1):156-161. doi: 10.52628/89.1.7586.ABSTRACTThis retrospective study presents the clinical and radiographic results of a single-bundle arthroscopic acromioclavicular joint reconstruction in 45 patients with a mean follow-up of 4.8 years. Patients with a Rockwood grade III or higher were included. Clinical results were based on satisfaction, pain and functional scores. These outcome scores were compared to coracoclavicular distance measurement on X-ray. Secondly, clinical outcome scores were compared between patients who had surgery in the first 6 weeks after trauma and patients treated after 6...

Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection of a reverse total shoulder arthroplasty: a case report
We describe the case of a 78-years-old male with dyspnea, inappetence and weight loss over a period of two weeks. The CT scan suggested disseminated tuberculosis and T5-T6 spondylodiscitis. During hospitalization, he developed a left shoulder pain where a reverse total shoulder arthroplasty was implanted 11 years ago. Open debridement and lavage with retention of the implant was performed first and intraveinous antibiotics were administered. 3 months after surgery the patient developed a painful sinus track at the incision site. Resection of the fistula tract, soft tissue debridement and removal of the implants were perfor...

Does the slope and length of the plantar calcaneal spur affect the clinic?
Acta Orthop Belg. 2023 Mar;89(1):146-151. doi: 10.52628/89.1.10881.ABSTRACTSince some of the patients with plantar calcaneal spur (PCS) do not have pain, we aimed to investigate the effect of the slope and length of the spur on this situation. The length and slope of PCS were measured by examining the radiological images of 50 patients in this prospective study. VAS, AOFAS and FFI scores of the patients were determined. Patients were divided into groups according to PCS length and slope. According to the slope of the spur, the mean AOFAS, FFI and VAS scores were, respectively; 94, 38, 1.3 in below 20 degrees; 80.1, 86.8, 4...

Clinical outcomes of Schatzker type II tibial plateau fractures using joint depression morphology: A cross-sectional study
This study aimed at the relationship between Luo classification morphology of tibial plateau fractures with clinical outcomes and surgical complications. The cross-sectional study was conducted on patients with Schatzker type II tibial plateau fracture who underwent surgery between May 2018 and January 2021. Clinical outcomes were measured by the AKSS, VAS, Lysholm score, alignment, and ROM. A total of 65 patients with a mean age of 36.38 years were enrolled. There was a significant difference in AKSS (p=0.001), VAS score (p=0.011), and mechanical axis alignment (p=0.037) between the groups by pre-operative joint depressio...

Is arthroscopic assisted double tibial tunnel fixation a good option for tibial eminentia fractures?
Acta Orthop Belg. 2023 Mar;89(1):117-121. doi: 10.52628/89.1.10753.ABSTRACTTibial eminentia fractures are avulsion fractures of the anterior cruciate ligament caused with additional injuries like meniscus tears or ligamentous injuries. Arthroscopic assisted internal fixation has become a preferred technique with the development of arthroscopic techniques. We aimed to present our results for arthroscopic assisted double tibial tunnel fixation in patients with displaced eminentia fracture. Twenty patients who were operated on for eminentia fracture between January 2010 and May 2014 were included in this study. All fractures ...

Acquired changes in thickness and length of patellar tendon after primary total knee arthroplasty: a prospective ultrasonographic study with over 4 years of follow-up
This study aims to determine the structural changes in both the length and thickness of the PT after primary TKA using ultrasound (US) and to investigate the association between these changes and clinical outcomes after a minimum follow-up of 48 months. This prospective study used the US on 60 knees of 32 patients (aged 54-80, mean 64.8±7 years) before and after primary TKA to evaluate changes in both the length and thickness of the patellar tendon. Clinical outcomes were assessed with HSS and Kujala scores. At the latest follow-up evaluation, there was a significant overall shortening of PT by 9.1% (p<0.001), in addit...

Nail breakage in patients with hypertrophic pseudoarthrosis after subtrochanteric femur fracture: treatment with exchanging nail and decortication
This study consisted of patients presenting with subtrochanteric femur fractures between January 2013 and April 2019 who underwent surgery and later experienced nail breakage due to hypertrophic nonunion. There were a total of 10 patients aged 26-62 years (Avg 40,30, SD: 9,989). Nine patients were smokers, and 1 patient had diabetes and hypertension. Three patients were admitted to the trauma center due to a car accident and 7 patients were admitted because of a fall. The infection parameters of all patients were normal. All patients had pathological movement complications and pain at the fracture site. Preoperatively, med...

Meta-analysis of InterTan, PFNA and PFNA-II internal fixation for the treatment of unstable intertrochanteric fractures in elderly individuals
Acta Orthop Belg. 2023 Mar;89(1):51-58. doi: 10.52628/89.1.9923.ABSTRACTElderly individuals are often affected by osteoporosis and have poor stability after fracture reduction. Moreover, there is still controversy regarding the clinical effects of the treatment for unstable intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly. The Cochrane, Embase, PubMed, and other databases were searched, and a meta-analysis of the literature on the treatment of unstable intertrochanteric fractures of the elderly with InterTan, PFNA, and PFNA-II was conducted. Seven studies were screened, with a total of 1236 patients. Our meta-analysis results sh...
