Patient Experiences With Hand Surgery in the Office Versus Ambulatory Surgery Center
Conclusions Though costs and time off of work differed between the two groups due to the different procedures in either setting, patient satisfaction metrics were comparable. While patient satisfaction depends on the operating physician, these results demonstrate that patients treated in-office and in an ASC have similar levels of approval with their hand surgery care.PMID:37727164 | PMC:PMC10506845 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.43763

Mortality risk after the first occurrence of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures in the general population: A nationwide cohort study
This study aimed to evaluate mortality risk after the first occurrence of OVCF in the general population using a nationwide dataset from the Korean National Health Insurance System. Why It Takes Forever to Get a Doctor ’ s Appointment
Recently I faced consoling a patient of mine who couldn’t understand why I was unable to “hop on the phone” to discuss her new back pain. When she finally got an appointment with me weeks later, I decided to be honest. I shared that I had 1,300 patients who call me their primary doctor. After I’m done seeing patients at 5 PM, I tend to 50 to 100 messages and notifications. I take three to four hours of work home with me every night. [time-brightcove not-tgx=”true”] I didn’t share these stats to elicit sympathy, but soon our roles had reversed. My patient overflowed with apologi...

6 Things to Do if Your Doctor Isn ’ t Listening to You
Liz Helms still remembers the way her doctor looked at her 30 years ago, when she described the severe pain she was experiencing in the area around her jaw. She told him she had limited facial movement and frequent muscle spasms, and that it felt like she was being struck by lightning again and again. She cataloged the ways her life had turned upside down. “But I could see it in his face—he either wasn’t listening or didn’t believe me,” Helms says. She remembers thinking: “They treat animals better than they’re treating humans.” [time-brightcove not-tgx=”true”] ...

Why It Is Important To Understand Multimodal Large Language Models In Healthcare
The future of medicine is undoubtedly inextricably linked to the development of artificial intelligence (AI). Although this revolution has been brewing for years, the past few months marked a major change, as algorithms finally moved out of the specialized labs and into our daily lives.  The public debut of Large Language Models (LLMs), like ChatGPT which became the fastest-growing consumer application of all time, has been a roaring success. LLMs are machine learning models trained on a vast amount of text data which enables them to understand and generate human-like text based on the patterns and structures they̵...
