International Urogynecology consultation chapter 2 committee 3: the clinical evaluation of pelvic organ prolapse including investigations into associated morbidity/pelvic floor dysfunction
ConclusionsThe clinical pelvic examination remains the central tool for evaluation of POP and a system such as the POP-Q or S-POP should be used to describe and quantify. The value of investigation for urinary tract dysfunction was discussed and findings presented. The routine addition of GI radiographic or physiological testing is currently not recommended. There are no data on the role of the routine assessment of pain or sexual function, and this area needs more study. Imaging studies alone cannot replace clinical examination for the assessment of POP.

Ollier Disease: A Case Report and Review of Treatment Options
In this report, we describe the case of an 11-year-old female who presented to her physician with pain and swelling of her right ring and small fingers after playing in a swimming pool with no obvious mechanism of trauma. A routine, plain radiographic evaluation of her hand revealed the presence of multiple enchondromatosis. We hope to use this case to highlight the surgical management options for young patients with Ollier disease and discuss circumstances in which surgical management may not be indicated.PMID:37731444 | PMC:PMC10509006 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.43815

Economic burden of nonoperative treatment of adult spinal deformity
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with ASD undergoing operative treatment at baseline had greater sagittal deformity and greater improvement in health-related quality of life postoperatively compared to patients treated nonoperatively. Additionally, patients in the nonoperative cohort overall had an increase in ODI and did not show improvement in utility gained. Patients in the nonoperative cohort who had low disability and sagittal deformity underwent successful maintenance and cost-effective treatment.PMID:37728175 | DOI:10.3171/2023.7.SPINE23195

Deep learning applications in osteoarthritis imaging
This article will provide a review of current applications of DL in osteoarthritis (OA) imaging, including methods used for cartilage lesion detection, OA diagnosis, cartilage segmentation, and OA risk assessment. DL techniques have been shown to have similar diagnostic performance as human readers for detecting and grading cartilage lesions within the knee on MRI. A variety of DL methods have been developed for detecting and grading the severity of knee OA and various features of knee OA on X-rays using standardized classification systems with diagnostic performance similar to human readers. Multiple DL approaches have be...

Osteoarthritis of the hip: is radiography still needed?
Abstract Diagnosis of hip osteoarthritis (OA) is based on clinical arguments, and medical imaging is obtained to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other possible sources of pain. Conventional radiographs are recommended as the first line imaging modality to investigate chronic hip pain. They should be obtained in a rigorous technique that includes an antero-posterior (AP) radiograph of the pelvis. The choice of the appropriate lateral view depends on the clinical indication, Lequesne ’s false profile being valuable in the assessment of OA. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is more sensitive to detect joint effusion/syn...

Repair of Distal Fibula Fractures with Minimally Invasive Intramedullary Nailing in the Elderly
J Am Podiatr Med Assoc. 2023 Jul-Aug;113(4):22-121. doi: 10.7547/22-121.ABSTRACTAnkle fractures have been well documented and are common, especially in the elderly, behind hip and distal radius fractures. Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) is the standard of treatment for displaced and unstable ankle fractures. Traditionally, ankle fractures in the elderly population have been treated with nonoperative methods; however, nonoperative methods have been associated with increased mortality. Thus, there has been a shift toward operative management for the elderly and less healthy patients. However, these patients often...

Acquired Hallux Varus Deformity Correction: Pivotless Distraction Technique
We report a 6-year-old neglected case of hallux varus deformity secondary to burn contracture successfully managed by contracture release with pivotless distraction technique using a biplanar distractor and skin grafting with Z-plasty in the same procedure. The deformity was corrected to a lesser extent and with good functional outcomes. The scar was excised and Z-plasty was performed. The medial joint capsule was released. We used gradual differential distraction with monitoring on sequential radiographs. Pain-free flexion of 45° and extension of 40° were achieved and the patient was able to wear shoes after 4 weeks pos...

Total Wrist Arthroplasty With a New Design, 20 Cases With 8-Year Follow-Up
CONCLUSIONS: The new TWA resulted in improved VAS pain scores, PROMs, wrist extension, and hand grip strength. The high frequency of reoperation is a concern, and modification of the implant is needed.TYPE OF STUDY/LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapeutic IV.PMID:37715756 | DOI:10.1016/j.jhsa.2023.08.004

Young Adolescent With Restricted Arm Motion During a Preparticipation Physical Exam
J Prim Care Community Health. 2023 Jan-Dec;14:21501319231201092. doi: 10.1177/21501319231201092.ABSTRACTA healthy 15-year-old right-hand dominant football player presented to the clinic for a preparticipation examination (PPE) with an exam notable for reduced right shoulder range of motion. The patient reported no complaints, including no pain. Upon questioning, he noted a remote non-sports related injury to that shoulder with unremarkable radiographs at that time. Subsequent X-ray imaging showed a bony abnormality thought to be consistent with an osteochondroma. However, advanced imaging identified it as a heterotrophic o...
