Is chronic groin pain a Bermuda triangle of sports medicine?
Authors: Šebečić B, Japjec M, Janković S, Vencel Čuljak, Dojčinović B, Starešinić M Abstract Chronic groin pain is one the most complex conditions encountered in the field of sports medicine. Conservative treatment is long lasting and the result of treatment is often uncer- tain and symptom recurrences are common, which can be very frustrating for both the patient and the physician. The complex etiology and uncertainties during treatment of chronic groin pain is the reason why some authors call it the Bermuda Triangle of sports medicine. In our prospective, 7-year study, 114 athletes with chronic groin pai...

Reporting and transparent research practices in sports medicine and orthopaedic clinical trials: a meta-research study
Conclusions These results will aid the sports medicine and orthopaedics community in developing tailored interventions to improve reporting. While authors typically mention blinding, randomisation and other factors, essential details are often missing. Greater acceptance of open science practices, like pre-registration and open data, is needed. As these practices have been widely encouraged, we discuss systemic interventions that may improve clinical trial reporting.

Exercise Testing in Sports Medicine.
CONCLUSION: Ergometric stress tests provide important data in clinical and preventive medicine. The findings are often difficult to interpret because of the wide range of normal findings, the use of different stress-inducing protocols, and the lack of gen- erally accepted reference values. The establishment of a nationwide fitness and health registry for ergometric data would be very helpful for the individualized inter- pretation of test findings and for the monitoring of exercise training and therapy. Prevalence and Course of Treatment of Common Hip Diagnoses Presenting to a Sports Medicine Clinic.
CONCLUSION: Femoroacetabular impingement syndrome was the most common diagnosis in our cohort and had the highest frequency of concurrent diagnoses. A combination of a home exercise program, injection, and physical therapy made up the typical course of treatment, while surgery was utilized less frequently. PMID: 31532930 [PubMed - in process]

Sports Medicine Update: Concussion.
Abstract A systematic approach is required for patients with a suspected concussion. Although standardized tools can aid in assessment, the diagnosis of concussion remains a clinical one. At the time of diagnosis, patients should be given both verbal and written review of the common symptoms of concussion, expected course of recovery, as well as strategies to manage symptoms. Most patients benefit from a brief period of rest, followed by a gradual reintroduction of activities, and a graduated return-to-sport protocol. Patients with prolonged recovery from a concussion may benefit from exercise, vestibular, and cog...
