Effect of acute intradialytic aerobic and resistance exercise on one-day blood pressure in patients undergoing hemodialysis: a pilot study.
CONCLUSIONS: Acute intradialytic exercise interventions are effective in increasing BP during dialysis and decreasing daytime ambulatory BP after dialysis. Longer observation periods and larger sample sizes will be needed to confirm our findings. Also further studies should be performed on patients prone to intradialytic hypotension. The effect of six months aerobic exercise during dialysis on liver enzymes, cystatin c and quality of life of hemodialysis patients.
CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate the positive effects of using aerobic exercise as a noninvasive and non-pharmacological method with minimal side effects that can be effective in improving the renal function of these patients. Therefore, due to this, this method can probably be used to help improve the condition of patients under hemodialysis. PMID: 33511817 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Study: Not Exercising Worse For Your Health Than Smoking, Diabetes & Heart Disease
In this study, the most fit individuals did the best,” said Metzl, who was not involved in the study. “Once cleared by their physicians, patients shouldn’t be afraid of exercise intensity.” The benefits of exercise were seen across all ages and in both men and women, “probably a little more pronounced in females,” Jaber said. “Whether you’re in your 40s or your 80s, you will benefit in the same way.” The risks, he said, became more shocking when comparing those who don’t exercise much. “We all know that a sedentary lifestyle or being unfit has some risk. But...

Treatment of Lupus Nephritis from Iranian Traditional Medicine and Modern Medicine Points of View: A Comparative Study
CONCLUSION: Considering the fact that there is no efficient strategy for the treatment of nephritis, use of herbal medicine, particularly based on the fruits or nuts that have been safely used for several years can be considered as a versatile supplement along with other therapeutic methods.PMID:34795786 | PMC:PMC8595000 | DOI:10.1155/2021/6645319

Opportunities and ethical challenges for the practice of medicine in the digital era
Abstract Technological advances have been a driving force in the practice of medicine. From the discovery of x-rays’ medical applications to the utilization of dialysis and surgical transplantation of organs, technology has presented new opportunities, and at times, ethical challenges for physicians. In recent years, the increased proliferation of social media tools has had a significant impact on how people engage with one another, and how they want to engage with their healthcare providers. Medical schools have begun to examine some of the issues surrounding use of social media in the context of professionalis...

The Use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine Among Dialysis Patients.
Conclusions • The study found a lower prevalence of CAM consumption in dialysis patients than had been found in other studies of the general population. Still, the unawareness of the harm and potential interactions and the lack of data sharing between the patients and caregivers might have had disastrous consequences. Therefore, caregivers need to inquire of their patients specifically about their use of CAM, especially for populations with chronic diseases, let alone patients undergoing dialysis. The Use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine by Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis.
Conclusions • The study found that more than half of the patients who underwent HD used ≥1 CAM method, had benefited from CAM, and had not informed the health care personnel about their use of CAM. PMID: 28160763 [PubMed - in process]

Individualized Hemodialysis Treatment: A Perspective on Residual Kidney Function and Precision Medicine in Nephrology
Background: Residual kidney function (RKF) is often expected to inevitably and rapidly decline among hemodialysis patients and, hence, has been inadvertently ignored in clinical practice. The importance of RKF has been revisited in some recent studies. Given that patients with end-stage renal disease now tend to initiate maintenance hemodialysis therapy with higher RKF levels, there seem to be important opportunities for incremental hemo dialysis by individualizing the dose and frequency according to their RKF levels. This approach is realigned with precision medicine and patient-centeredness.Summary: In this article, we...

Pragmatic Recommendations for the Prevention and Treatment of Acute Kidney Injury in Patients with COVID-19 in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.
We report on a set of pragmatic recommendations for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of patients with COVID-19 and AKI in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). For the prevention of AKI among patients with COVID-19 in LMICs, we recommend using isotonic crystalloid solutions for expansion of intravascular volume, avoiding nephrotoxic medications, and using a conservative fluid management strategy in patients with respiratory failure. For the diagnosis of AKI, we suggest that any patient with COVID-19 presenting with an elevated serum creatinine level without available historical values be considered as having A...

Relationship between Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndrome Elements and Prognosis of Patients with IgA Nephropathy
CONCLUSIONS: Yang-deficiency independently predicts the risk of poor prognosis in primary IgAN patients. Being female, older age, low hemoglobin levels, and cellular/fibrocellular crescents were independently associated with Yang-deficiency in IgAN patients.PMID:35942383 | PMC:PMC9356779 | DOI:10.1155/2022/2270406
