Turgut Ozal University Faculty of Medicine 6th International Student Congress.
Abstract Turgut Ozal University Scientific Research Committee (TOBAT) was established in Turgut Ozal University Faculty of Medicine in 2009 to encourage young medical students and scientists to carry out novel scientific research in addition to their medical education in order to 1) establish a platform of informing the latest advancements in science, 2) present this work to colleagues and 3) meet and interact with their peers within the international medical and scientific community. Our committee annually organizes Turkey's most highly-qualified medical student congress with the highest number of presenters and ...

2D longitudinal LV speckle tracking strain pattern in breast cancer survivors: sports activity vs exercise as prescription model
AbstractPrevention strategies are important to optimize and to manage heart care in breast cancer survivors. Regular physical activity at moderate intensity is normally proposed to maintain myocardial performance; however, no data is available about the different impact of different levels of physical exercise. 2D speckle tracking echocardiography (2DSTE) is an accepted method for early detection of myocardial dysfunction. The study aims to monitor the cardiac performances in breast cancer survivors by 2DSTE analysis to manage sports activity vs physical activity. Two groups of previous breast cancer survivors (33 BCS) tra...

Alternative Medicine Alone Leads to Lower Cancer Survival
Cancer patients who opt for alternative therapy instead of conventional medicine significantly decrease their chances of survival, according to researchers at Yale School of Medicine. Although the popularity of alternative medicine continues to grow, a recent study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found survival rates significantly reduced for those who use it as first-line therapy. Conventional cancer treatments — chemotherapy, surgery and radiation — still produce a much better chance of survival. Mesothelioma was not included in the study, but the findings are relevant to this rare and aggr...

Gene mutation‐based and specific therapies in precision medicine
Abstract Precision medicine has been initiated and gains more and more attention from preclinical and clinical scientists. A number of key elements or critical parts in precision medicine have been described and emphasized to establish a systems understanding of precision medicine. The principle of precision medicine is to treat patients on the basis of genetic alterations after gene mutations are identified, although questions and challenges still remain before clinical application. Therapeutic strategies of precision medicine should be considered according to gene mutation, after biological and functional mechanisms of m...

Starring role of Biomarkers and Anticancer Agents as a Major Driver in Precision Medicine of Cancer Therapy
Curr Mol Med. 2021 Dec 21. doi: 10.2174/1566524022666211221152947. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrecision medicine represents the most modern contemporary medicine trend, based on enormous amounts of data relating to people's health, individual characteristics, and life context using the most appropriate strategies to prevent and cure them. Precision medicine in cancer coordinates most precisely and viable treatment to every individual cancer patient based on the disease's genetic profile. Precision medicine changes the standard one size fits all medication model, which has focused on average responses to care. Significan...

Abstract SS03-01: Promise and pitfalls of personalized medicine from a clinical science perspective
Personalized medicine tailors treatment to meet an individual patient's needs and specific disease. While the idea of personalized medicine is not new, advances in biomedical science have evolved to target molecular pathways to reduce toxicity and provide more effective treatment options to patients with many common cancers. For a few cancers, such as breast cancer, biomarker assisted diagnoses and therapy have already replaced the standard "one size fits all" treatment. As our understanding of molecular genetics increases we will be able to offer tailored cancer therapy to more patients, however, the cost of cancer care w...

Emergency medical genomes: a breakthrough application of precision medicine
Abstract Today there exist two medical applications where relatively strong evidence exists to support the broad adoption of genome-informed precision medicine. These are the differential diagnosis of single gene diseases and genotype-based selection of patients for targeted cancer therapies. However, despite the availability of the $1000 genome and $700 exome for research, there is as yet little broad uptake of genomic medicine, even in these applications. Significant impediments to mainstream adoption exist, including unavailability in many institutions, lack of scalability in others, a dearth of physician unde...

Pattern identification of lung cancer patients based on body constitution questionnaires (BCQ) and glycoproteomics for precision medicine
This study intends to diagnose pattern identification of patients in TKM with BCQ assessment and proteomics approach. The identification of the glycoproteins in each group will lead to the scientific foundation of personalized medicine in TKM according to patients’ pattern identification for lung cancer therapy. We intend to (1) diagnose the pattern identification types of lung cancer patients with BCQ under the framework of TKM; (2) evaluate BCQ assessment with glycoproteomics approach for precision medicine. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03384680. Registered 27 December 2017. Retrospectively registered.

Prognostic Value of Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G) in Advanced Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer Treated with Korean Medicine.
Conclusion: The FACT-G total score and PWB score as HRQoL measurements were significant prognostic factors for survival in advanced NSCLC patients treated with Korean medicine. This finding implies that the FACT-G can be used in clinical practice as a predictor of survival in patients with advanced NSCLC. PMID: 32454853 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effectiveness and Safety Evaluation of Chinese Medicine in Treatment of Metastatic Colorectal Cancer after Chemotherapy Failure: Protocol of a Prospective Multicenter Cohort Study
DiscussionThis prospective study will assess the effectiveness and safety of CM in treating metastatic CRC after conventional chemotherapy failure. Patients in the ICM group will be compared with those in the WM group and CM group. If certified to be effective, national provision of CM treatment in metastatic CRC will probably be advised. (Registration No. NCT02923622 on ClinicalTrials.gov)

Treatment of Liver Cancer: Role of the Traditional Mongolian Medicine
Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2022 Feb 14;2022:6535977. doi: 10.1155/2022/6535977. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTLiver cancer is an extraordinarily heterogeneous malignancy with relatively high mortality and increasing incidence rate among the so far identified cancers. Improvements in liver cancer therapy have been made in the past decades, but therapeutics against liver cancer are still limited. Traditional Mongolian Medicine, formed and developed by the Mongolian people to maintain health in the medical practice of fighting against diseases, has been recognized as one of the key components of the world healthcare syste...

Wnt/ < em > β < /em > -catenin signalling pathway in breast cancer cells and its effect on reversing tumour drug resistance by alkaloids extracted from traditional Chinese medicine
Expert Rev Mol Med. 2023 Jun 19;25:e21. doi: 10.1017/erm.2023.16.ABSTRACTBreast cancer is a high-risk disease with a high mortality rate among women. Chemotherapy plays an important role in the treatment of breast cancer. However, chemotherapy eventually results in tumours that are resistant to drugs. In recent years, many studies have revealed that the activation of Wnt/β-catenin signalling is crucial for the emergence and growth of breast tumours as well as the development of drug resistance. Additionally, drugs that target this pathway can reverse drug resistance in breast cancer therapy. Traditional Chinese medicine h...
