Misophonia in Children and Adolescents: Age Differences, Risk Factors, Psychiatric and Psychological Correlates. A Pilot Study with Mothers' Involvement
Child Psychiatry Hum Dev. 2023 Sep 8. doi: 10.1007/s10578-023-01593-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMisophonia is a type of disorder characterized by decreased sound tolerance. While it typically begins in childhood, research on its characteristics in this population is limited. We assessed 90 children aged 7-18 with and without misophonia, along with their mothers, using interviews, questionnaires, and performance-based tests. Younger children with misophonia were more likely to use aggression in response to triggers than older, while adolescents largely reported self-harm during triggers. Children with misophonia did no...

Effective treatment of refractory tinnitus by bilateral deep brain stimulation of the medial geniculate body of the thalamus: A case report
Tinnitus is the perception of a sound in the absence of an audible source. In 1.2% of the population, tinnitus has a large impact on several aspects of daily life and is often accompanied by depression, anxiety and sleep disturbances [1]. Tinnitus is associated with high costs of care, as well as societal and economic burden [2]. Despite the large impact on a person ’s life, treatment options remain limited. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is considered a promising treatment for refractory tinnitus [3].

P180/99 More than just noise: association of pulsatile tinnitus with anxiety, depression and reduction of quality of life
ConclusionThe prevalence of moderate to severe depression and anxiety in the PT population, which was previously unknown, is estimated in our study to be 46% and 37%, respectively. Furthermore, increasing TFI total score was significantly associated with increased depression and anxiety scales adding further evidence of the impact of PT on the psychological health of these patients.Disclosure of InterestNothing to disclose

The 5-Steps to Relieve Tinnitus
My patient T.K. was a wreck. He looked like he hadn’t slept in a week. I asked him what was going on. “It’s nothing you can fix, doc,” he said. “I’ve been to three specialists, and they all told me the same thing… “I’ve got tinnitus, and I just have to live with it.” Luckily, I was able to help him. Tinnitus is an aggravating, nerve-racking, and unseen condition. The constant ringing in your ears robs you of sleep, makes you miserable as it drowns out your hearing, and, over time, makes you more prone to illness. Tinnitus also shatters your focus and concentration. Sadly, up to 25% of the U.S. populatio...

Battlefield Acupuncture as a Treatment Option for  Chronic Tinnitus: A Pilot Study
CONCLUSIONS: Findings from eight chronic tinnitus sufferers who received two BFA treatment sessions are reported here, suggesting at least short-term treatment benefits observed as reductions in tinnitus-related psychological distress and impact. Although these findings are constrained by the study's small sample size and limited treatment period, its findings underscore the need for further research to determine the potential benefits of BFA for individuals who suffer from chronic tinnitus. Future research should consider the possibility of more lasting benefits through extended BFA treatment, with a comparison of BFA tre...

Prospective comparative analysis of cochlear implant patients with single-sided deafness and asymmetric hearing loss with regard to health-related quality of life, tinnitus distress and psychological comorbidities
CONCLUSION: SSD and AHL patients differ significantly preoperatively in terms of their subjective hearing assessment and psychosocial parameters. In SSD patients, psychological stress factors may have a stronger impact on the quality of life than in AHL patients. These aspects should be taken into account in the preoperative counseling and postoperative rehabilitation.PMID:37436479 | DOI:10.1007/s00106-023-01318-6

Trading mental and physical health in vestibular schwannoma treatment decision
ConclusionPhysical and mental health is significantly influenced by VS surgery. While PH might decrease after surgery, MH potentially increases when patient is cured. Practitioners should take MH into account before advising an incompletely VS treatment (e.g., subtotal resection, observation or radiosurgery).

Prevalence of tinnitus and hyperacusis in 9 –12-year-old children
ConclusionsTinnitus and hyperacusis are prevalent in children aged 9 –12 years. Some of these children might be overlooked and, as such, not receiving the required follow-up or counselling. Development of guidelines for the assessment of these auditory symptoms in children would help to determine the prevalence numbers with greater accuracy. Sensibility campaigns for safe listening are warranted, as more than half of the children never use hearing protection.

Tinnitus und beeinflussende Komorbidit ätenTinnitus and Influencing Comorbidities

Treatment of Tinnitus with Intratympanic Injection of Dexamethasone Versus Oral Drugs
AbstractTinnitus is a symptom of cochlear dysfunction, which can disturb the patient emotionally and physically. As anxiety and tinnitus persist concurrently, certain benzodiazepines have been administered as possible tinnitus treatment options. In addition to pharmacological medications, certain studies have looked at the use of vitamins to treat tinnitus. Intratympanic steroids have been successfully used in various studies as well, for the treatment of tinnitus. A clinical based interventional study was taken up among the patients visiting the ENT OPD of a State Medical College and Hospital. 160 subjects were included i...
