Patient-preferred outcomes in patients with vestibular schwannoma: a qualitative content analysis of symptoms, side effects and their impact on health-related quality of life
ConclusionThis qualitative study demonstrates that in this population many patients with VS encounter participation difficulties in their daily physical and social activities and value hearing and balance preservation, reduced tinnitus, and restored energy as preferred outcomes as they are hampered by symptoms and side effects related to hearing, balance, and energy. Healthcare professionals should consider these key points and use these and the patient-preferred outcomes in consultation, shared decision making, treatment, and follow-up to optimize patient-centred care.

Psychosomatic aspects in otorhinolaryngology-historical milestones
CONCLUSION: As of 2022, psychosomatics in otolaryngology has been steadily developing for over 70 years. The standards achieved are to be further expanded and research on cognition, affectivity, and sensory analogies intensified.PMID:37626261 | DOI:10.1007/s00106-023-01349-z

Interventions against hearing loss are an integral component of successful tinnitus therapy. German version
HNO. 2023 Aug 8. doi: 10.1007/s00106-023-01333-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTinnitus very often develops from acute or chronic hearing loss, mainly inner ear deafness. The frequency of the tinnitus mostly corresponds to the frequency range of the hearing loss and is enhanced by down-regulation of inhibition in the central auditory pathway for these frequencies, in addition to focused attention and enhanced arousal for the disturbing sound. Therefore, interventions to improve hearing such as mid-ear surgery or-more often-electronic devices including hearing aids or cochlear implants (CI) are important for the treatment ...

Prospective comparative analysis of cochlear implant patients with single-sided deafness and asymmetric hearing loss with regard to health-related quality of life, tinnitus distress and psychological comorbidities
CONCLUSION: SSD and AHL patients differ significantly preoperatively in terms of their subjective hearing assessment and psychosocial parameters. In SSD patients, psychological stress factors may have a stronger impact on the quality of life than in AHL patients. These aspects should be taken into account in the preoperative counseling and postoperative rehabilitation.PMID:37436479 | DOI:10.1007/s00106-023-01318-6

Case report: Bilateral sudden deafness in acute middle cerebellar peduncle infarction: central or peripheral?
CONCLUSION: Vertebrobasilar diseases due to atherosclerosis should be routinely considered in middle-aged and elderly patients with vascular risk factors and bilateral hearing loss. Bilateral SSNHL can be a prodrome of acute MCP infarction and it can be peripheral. Brain MRI, brain magnetic resonance angiogram (MRA), brain and neck computed tomography angiography (CTA), BAEP, otoacoustic emissions, and Pure Tone Audiogram help to localize and qualify the diagnosis. Bilateral SSNHL localized to the periphery usually improves better and has a good prognosis. Early detection of hearing loss and intervention can help patients ...

Characteristics and prognostic analysis of simultaneous bilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss
ConclusionPatients with Si-BSSNHL had mild deafness, elevated total and indirect bilirubin and homocysteine levels, and poorer prognosis than those with USSNHL. Audiogram curve type was linked to the therapeutic effect of Si-BSSNHL, and the sloping type was an independent risk factor for a poor prognosis in the right ear of Si-SSNHL.

Is tinnitus making you miserable?
Tinnitus is a frequently reported symptom for audiology patients. It's commonly referred to as ringing in the ears, but it can be different sounds like buzzing, roaring, clicking, hissing or humming. Tinnitus is the sensation or perception of sounds that other people can't hear, and it doesn't have an external source. It lasts longer than five minutes and occurs more than once per week.
