Association of age-related hearing loss, tinnitus, and chronic low back pain in middle-aged and older Korean adults
by Hye-Mi Noh, Yi Hwa Choi, Jee Hye Wee, Hong Ji Song, Hye-Ji An, Keum Ji Kim, Soo Kyung Lee, Min Soo Jang, Nayoung Yeon This was a cross-sectional study conducted to evaluate the association between hearing impairment and low back pain (LBP) using data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A total of 5,504 middle-aged and older Korean adults (aged ≥50 years old) who underwent plain rad iography of the lumbar spine and pure tone audiometry were included. The presence of LBP was evaluated using a questionnaire, which included a question on whether the patient had experienced LBP that lasted fo...

Battlefield Acupuncture as a Treatment Option for  Chronic Tinnitus: A Pilot Study
CONCLUSIONS: Findings from eight chronic tinnitus sufferers who received two BFA treatment sessions are reported here, suggesting at least short-term treatment benefits observed as reductions in tinnitus-related psychological distress and impact. Although these findings are constrained by the study's small sample size and limited treatment period, its findings underscore the need for further research to determine the potential benefits of BFA for individuals who suffer from chronic tinnitus. Future research should consider the possibility of more lasting benefits through extended BFA treatment, with a comparison of BFA tre...

Health-related quality of life in chronic otitis media-measurement methods and their application in surgical therapy
CONCLUSION: Hearing is the most important factor influencing HRQoL in COM. Surgical procedures usually result in a clinically relevant improvement in HRQoL in COM with or without cholesteatoma. However, if cholesteatoma is present, its extent does not correlate with HRQoL. While HRQoL plays a secondary role in establishment of the indication for surgical therapy in COM with cholesteatoma, it plays an important role in terms of relative surgical indications, e.g., a symptomatic open mastoid cavity after resection of the posterior canal wall. We encourage the regular use of disease-specific PROMs preoperatively as well as du...

Lessons in IR: Superior Vena Cava Rupture and Pericardial Tamponade
A 50-year-old woman with protein C deficiency presented with chronic headache, dizziness that became worse on bending over, unexplained syncope, visual changes, tinnitus, upper-body truncal edema, atypical chest pain, and shortness of breath on lying recumbent. Magnetic resonance imaging showed occlusion of the superior vena cava (SVC). SVC recanalization and stent placement were performed via access from both the right jugular and right common femoral veins. Jugular venography confirmed occlusion of the right brachiocephalic vein (BCV), with numerous collaterals (Fig 1a).

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 11005: Low Sleep Satisfaction Is Related to High Disease Burden in Tinnitus
orge Simões Previous studies have shown a high prevalence of sleep disturbances in tinnitus patients. However, no study has yet evaluated subjective sleep satisfaction. The present study aimed to investigate associations of self-reported sleep satisfaction with sociodemographic factors, tinnitus-related distress, depression, and self-reported quality of life. This is a retrospective analysis of 2344 outpatients with tinnitus presenting at a tertiary German tinnitus clinic from 2010 to 2020. Patients who filled in five questionnaires (Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), Tinnitus Questionnaire (TQ), Major Depression Inve...

E-178 Balloon assisted embolization technique for treatment of vertebro-vertebral arteriovenous fistulas
ConclusionsVV-AVF dual lumen balloon-assisted coiling is a feasible solution both in adult and pediatric patients. Temporary balloon inflation in the fistula helps to locate the fistulous point, to isolate the segment of the fistula preventing coil protrusion in the parent vertebral artery, to reduce the venous outflow and maintain flow control during coiling. The use of dual lumen balloon catheter allow for maintenance of patency of the vertebral artery and targeted coil embolization at the fistula point resulting in angiographic cure for both cases.Disclosures J.
