Efficacy and safety of systemic, high-dose glucocorticoid therapy for idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss : Study protocol for a  three-armed, randomized, triple-blind, multicenter trial (HODOKORT)
DISCUSSION: There is an unmet medical need for an effective medical therapy of ISSHL. Although sensorineural hearing impairment can be partially compensated by hearing aids or cochlear implants (CI), generic hearing is better than using hearing aids or CIs. Since adverse effects of a short course of high-dose systemic corticosteroids have not been documented with good evidence, the trial will improve knowledge on possible side effects in the different treatment arms with a focus on hyperglycemia and hypertension.TRIAL REGISTRATION: EudraCT (European Union Drug Regulating Authorities Clinical Trials Database) Nr. 2015-00260...

Sensorineural Hearing Loss After Adoptive Cell Immunotherapy for Melanoma Using MART-1 Specific T Cells: A Case Report and Its Pathophysiology
Conclusion: Based on our presented case and a vast amount of literature there is circumstantial evidence that TCR gene therapy for melanoma targets the perivascular macrophage-like melanocytes in the stria vascularis, resulting in SNHL. We suggest that SNHL after TCR gene therapy may be caused by a disruption of the blood–labyrinth–barrier and the endolymphatic potential and/or a sterile inflammation of the stria vascularis. In severe cases like our subject, we posit that endolymphatic hydrops or hair cell loss may cause irreversible and asymmetrical deafness. Steroid prophylaxis via transtympanic application is debatable.

Intratympanic Triamcinolone Acetonide as Treatment Option for Idiopathic Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Conclusion: While the exact role of intratympanic injections requires additional trials, triamcinolone resulted in similar outcomes compared to studies using dexamethasone or methylprednisolone. Due to favorable pharmacological properties, triamcinolone represents a safe and efficacious alternative for intratympanic treatment in idiopathic sensorineural hearing loss.

Efficacy and Safety of AM-111 in the Treatment of Acute Unilateral Sudden Deafness—A Double-blind, Randomized, Placebo-controlled Phase 3 Study
Objective: To confirm the efficacy and safety of AM-111 (brimapitide), a cell-penetrating c-Jun N-terminal Kinase (JNK) inhibitor, in patients suffering from severe to profound acute unilateral idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL). Study design: Prospective, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled phase 3 study with follow-up visits on Days 3, 7, 28, and 91. Setting: Fifty-one European and Asian sites (tertiary referral centers, private ENT practices). Patients: Two hundred fifty-six patients aged 18 to 65 years presenting within 72 hours following ISSNHL onset with mean hearing loss ≥ ...

Neurosarcoidosis Occurring 6 Years after Onset of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Disease
We report a case of the concurrence of VKHD and sarcoidosis, which may share a common pathophysiology. Accumulation of further similar cases is necessary to elucidate the precise mechanism underlying the concurrence of these two diseases.Case Rep Ophthalmol 2019;10:32 –40

Pediatric Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Abstract: Sudden sensorineural hearing loss is defined as sudden unilateral or bilateral sensorineural hearing loss with at least 30 dB decrease in threshold in 3 contiguous test frequencies occurring over 72 hours or less. It is rare among children. The mechanism of the process and prognosis of the disorder remains unclear. The current incidence of sudden sensorineural hearing loss among pediatric population is unknown. The authors carried out a retrospective chart analysis of patients under 15 years of age from 2004 to 2015, who consulted to the Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Department of Inonu University Medi...

Reiter's syndrome and hearing loss: a possible association?
Key clinical message Patient complained of hearing loss and tinnitus after the onset of Reiter's syndrome. Audiometry confirmed the hearing loss on the left ear; blood work showed increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C3 fraction of the complement. Genotyping for HLA‐B27 was positive. Treatment with prednisolone did not improve the hearing levels. Patient complained of hearing loss and tinnitus after the onset of Reiter's syndrome. Susac syndrome in the absence of encephalopathy and normal mri
A 21 year–old young lady was referred to ophthalmology with visual disturbance in the right eye. Two weeks prior she had nausea and vertigo and was thought to have an ear infection. She then suffered from right sided hearing loss, tinnitus, sickness, frontal headaches and a few days later awoke with a right visual defect. Examination showed a right inferior visual field loss, branch retinal artery occlusions and visual acuity of 6/36. Neurological review revealed a right sensorineural hearing loss and there was no cognitive impairment. Fluoroscein angiogram confirmed branched retinal artery occlusions and cotton wool...

Sudden Hearing Loss After Dental Treatment
A 66-year-old man presented with impaired balance, tinnitus, sensation of blockage, and hearing loss in his left ear, which developed after dental treatment for dental pain 4 days previously. Treatment of the carious left upper second molar tooth had included pulp extirpation, canal expansion, and tooth filling under local anesthesia with articaine and epinephrine. Impaired balance decreased spontaneously within 3 days of dental treatment, but tinnitus and hearing loss persisted. Pure tone audiogram showed profound sensorineural hearing loss in the left ear, with a downslope from 40 to 100 dB, and an abnormal speech discri...
