Intratympanic dexamethasone in Mani ères disease and symptom control
CONCLUSION: ITD application shows improvement in controlling vertigo and tinnitus in patients under exacerbation in MD.SIGNIFICANCE: It is a promising non-destructive addition to the 'stepwise treatment concept' in MD and can be used as a first-line treatment in vertigo control.PMID:37682583 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2244003

Treatment of Tinnitus with Intratympanic Injection of Dexamethasone Versus Oral Drugs
AbstractTinnitus is a symptom of cochlear dysfunction, which can disturb the patient emotionally and physically. As anxiety and tinnitus persist concurrently, certain benzodiazepines have been administered as possible tinnitus treatment options. In addition to pharmacological medications, certain studies have looked at the use of vitamins to treat tinnitus. Intratympanic steroids have been successfully used in various studies as well, for the treatment of tinnitus. A clinical based interventional study was taken up among the patients visiting the ENT OPD of a State Medical College and Hospital. 160 subjects were included i...

Intratympanic corticosteroids for M énière's disease
CONCLUSIONS: The evidence for intratympanic corticosteroids in the treatment of Ménière's disease is uncertain. There are relatively few published RCTs, which all consider the same type of corticosteroid (dexamethasone). We also have concerns about publication bias in this area, with the identification of two large RCTs that remain unpublished. The evidence comparing intratympanic corticosteroids to placebo or no treatment is therefore all low- or very low-certainty. This means that we have very low confidence that the effects reported are accurate estimates of the true effect of these interventions. Consensus on the app...

Efficacy and safety of systemic, high-dose glucocorticoid therapy for idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss : Study protocol for a  three-armed, randomized, triple-blind, multicenter trial (HODOKORT)
DISCUSSION: There is an unmet medical need for an effective medical therapy of ISSHL. Although sensorineural hearing impairment can be partially compensated by hearing aids or cochlear implants (CI), generic hearing is better than using hearing aids or CIs. Since adverse effects of a short course of high-dose systemic corticosteroids have not been documented with good evidence, the trial will improve knowledge on possible side effects in the different treatment arms with a focus on hyperglycemia and hypertension.TRIAL REGISTRATION: EudraCT (European Union Drug Regulating Authorities Clinical Trials Database) Nr. 2015-00260...

Effectiveness of Intratympanic Dexamethasone Injection for Tinnitus Treatment: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: ITDI alone did not show a significant effect for treating tinnitus compared with placebo. However, the potential of combination treatment of ITDI with other drugs for tinnitus therapy should be further studied in more systematic research.PMID:35144363 | DOI:10.21053/ceo.2021.01459

Sudden hearing loss and coronavirus disease 2019: the role of corticosteroid intra-tympanic injection in hearing improvement
CONCLUSION: This case report supports evidence from other case reports of a possible association between coronavirus disease 2019 and sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Sudden sensorineural hearing loss may be a symptom of this disease that behaves as an underlying aggravating factor. Intra-tympanic injection of corticosteroids is recommended for managing these patients during the pandemic.PMID:33913413 | DOI:10.1017/S0022215121001080

Occlusion of the Lateral Semicircular Canal Through the External Ear Canal: A Case Report.
Abstract This case report introduces a novel surgical procedure to occlude the lateral semicircular canal through the external auditory canal. The patient was a 64-year-old male with Ménière's disease who had suffered from left ear vertigo accompanied by tinnitus for more than 4 years. He also suffered from paroxysmal vertigo, fluctuating hearing loss, tinnitus symptoms, and ear distension and tightness. The patient had been treated with dexamethasone injected into the tympanic cavity for 1 year, but his condition often recurred and could not be controlled. We developed a novel procedure using an endoscope to oc...

Effects of an Intratympanic Injection of Dexamethasone Combined with Gentamicin on the Expression Level of Serum P0 Protein Antibodies in Patients with Meniere’s Disease
CONCLUSION: For patients with MD, dexamethasone combined with gentamicin can reduce the incidence of vertigo, tinnitus, and gait instability, but it has no effect on the efficacy or number of vertigo attacks 6 months after treatment. Therefore, the levels of myelin P0 protein antibodies after treatment can be used as predictors of vertigo at 6 months after treatment.
