The effectiveness of two types of low-level laser therapy in patients with persistent tinnitus
AbstractTinnitus is a perception disorder of sound with no hearing impulse. It is a very common otology complaint that leads to worsening quality of life. The experience of sound is only the product of neural system activity, with no matching mechanical or vibratory activity in the cochlea, and is unrelated to any external stimuli. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is a medical treatment of tinnitus that uses low-energy-level lasers or light-emitting diodes to stimulate or inhibit cellular function. The study included nine patients aged 20 –68 years with unilateral or bilateral tinnitus. It was a self-controlled clinical tr...

Positive Correlation between Tinnitus Severity and Poor Sleep Quality Prior to Tinnitus Onset: a Retrospective Study
The objective of this study was to investigate the correlation of tinnitus severity and sleep quality prior to tinnitus onset in a Chinese population. We recruited patients with primary tinnitus from a tertiary teaching hospital in southwest China, retrospectively. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Mandarin version of the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI-M) were employed to assess tinnitus severity and sleep quality of past, respectively. A battery of hearing tests was also administered to subjects, including TEOAE, pure tone audiometry, and tympanometry, for hearing evaluation. We enrolled 190 patients and n...

Microstructural Alterations in the Brains of Adults With Prelingual Sensorineural Hearing Loss: a Diffusion Kurtosis Imaging Study
Conclusions: These findings suggest that DKI can provide comprehensive characteristics to demonstrate reductions in the auditory cortical GM and hypomyelination of WM fibers in the auditory pathway caused by auditory deprivation early in life.

The use of Distortion Product Otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE) records to estimate effect of vitamin B complex on changing severity of Tinnitus
ConclusionsThe uses of DPOAE changing amplitude could be used as a parameter to estimate effect of vitamin B complex on changing the severity of Tinnitus in patients with tinnitus only or those have Tinnitus with SNHL. The supplementation of vitamin B complex could improve the tinnitus severity especially in patients with tinnitus without SNHL.

Tinnitus among children – Our experiences in a tertiary care teaching hospital of eastern India
Conclusion Proper medical history and audiological examination are helpful for finding etiology and management of tinnitus among children. Little is known for effective treatment in childhood tinnitus. In the present study, the etiology of tinnitus in children is somewhat different than those of adults. Establishing the diagnosis and implementing appropriate treatment leads to relieve troublesome tinnitus among children.

Altered Contralateral Auditory Cortical Morphology in Unilateral Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Conclusions: This study confirms that detectable decreased contralateral auditory cortical morphological changes have occurred in unilateral SSNHL patients within the acute period by voxel-based morphometry methods. The gray matter volumes of these brain areas also perform a negative correlation with the duration of the disease, which suggests a gradual brain structural impairment after the progression of the disease.

Stapedial reflex and recruitment: What is the relationship with tinnitus?
Abstract Tinnitus is characterized by an auditory perception of sound, with no stimuli from the external environment. Tinnitus is an increasingly significant complaint, affecting 10-17% of the world population. As a symptom, it should always be considered with pathology in the auditory system. Our study aims to assess the relationship of this symptom with the presence of a stapedial reflex and the phenomenon of recruitment. Medical records of patients complaining of subjective tinnitus during their first consultation in the Outpatient Clinic of the Unicamp Teaching Hospital, in Brazil, between 2011 and 2012 were a...

This study aims to identify the effect of De Qi for patients who receive acupuncture to alleviate tinnitus by a prospective, double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled trial. Methods and design: This study compares two acupuncture groups (with or without manipulation) in 292 patients with a history of subjective tinnitus. The trial will be conducted in the Teaching Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In the study, the patients will be randomly assigned into two groups according to a computer-generated randomization list and assessed prior to treatment. Characterization of tinnitus in Nigeria
Conclusion: Tinnitus character was majorly short term, unilateral, discrete, intermittent, and non-pulsatile in nature, and it is associated with otological, audiological, anthropometric and cardiovascular anomalies. The characteristics of tinnitus in Nigerian patients were similar to those described in developed countries, but the major risk factors for tinnitus except hearing impairment, may be different from the latter.
