IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 6697: Post-COVID-19 Syndrome: Audiometric Findings in Patients with Audiological Symptoms
The objective of this observational, descriptive cross-sectional study is to describe the audiometric findings of post-COVID-19 patients with audiological symptoms. A sample of 47 patients with a diagnosis of COVID-19 infection was included: The age range was between 18 and 50 years old, the mean age was 37.0 years with a standard deviation of ±8.3 years, and 32 patients (68.1%) were female and 15 male patients (31.9%). Patients were recruited by the Otolaryngology service at Civil Fray Antonio Mayor Hospital from September 2020 to December 2022. Tonal audiometry was performed in a window of no more than 3 m...

Case-Control Study of Long COVID, Sapporo, Japan
Emerg Infect Dis. 2023 Apr 12;29(5). doi: 10.3201/eid2905.221349. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe conducted a cross-sectional survey among SARS-CoV-2-positive persons and negative controls in Sapporo, Japan, to clarify symptoms of long COVID. We collected responses from 8,018 participants, 3,694 case-patients and 3,672 controls. We calculated symptom prevalence for case-patients at 2-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, and 13-18 months after illness onset. We used logistic regression, adjusted for age and sex, to estimate the odds ratio (OR) for each symptom and control reference. We calculated symptom prevalence by stratifying for disea...

Bilateral Longitudinally Extensive Optic Perineuritis Post ‐COVID‐19 Presenting as “Idiopathic” Intracranial Hypertension: A Case Report
ConclusionThere is a growing association between demyelinating disorders and COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination, it is essential to recognize CSF abnormalities that are incompatible with a diagnosis of IIH, such as increased protein in our case, and may lead to an incorrect diagnosis. This article is protected by copyright. Bilateral Conjunctivitis, Keratitis, and Anterior Uveitis in a Patient Co-infected with Parvovirus B19 and SARS-CoV-2
We report on a case of bilateral conjunctivitis, keratitis, and anterior uveitis that occurred in a patient co-infected by B19V and SARS-CoV-2. A young nurse developed, 20 days after the onset of asthenia and fever, a maculopapular rash and, in the following month, B19V-related arthritis. Shortly after a course of antibiotics and corticosteroids and the resolution of the arthritis, she began to complain of hearing loss and tinnitus. A polymerase chain reaction for SARS-CoV-2, previously negative, turned out positive; IgM for B19V decreased while IgG increased and antinuclear autoantibody and rheumatoid factor test results ...

Tinnitus and biopsychosocial ramifications of COVID-19 associated with severe suicide attempt-a case report - Khan A, Heide S, Flatley A, Khan A, Nobler M.
The COVID-19 disease has been linked to multiple physical and mental health consequences which may be partially attributed to multi-system modulation by inflammatory cytokines. Post-acute sequelae (PASC) of SARS-CoV-2 infection, colloquially known as "Long...

Ramsay Hunt syndrome following COVID-19 vaccination
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused profound social and economic upheaval. COVID-19 vaccines promise to prevent infection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. However, due to their expedited approval, these vaccines need to be vigilantly monitored for their safety. Cases of Bell’s palsy have also been reported after COVID-19 vaccine injection. In two phase III trials of COVID-19 vaccines involving around 38 000 patients, there were seven cases of Bell’s palsy after vaccine compared with one case after receiving placebo.1 2 As the p value was 0.07 and this was a post hoc analysis, no definite association could be inferred. We ...

Tinnitus emerging in the context of a COVID-19 infection seems not to differ in its characteristics from tinnitus unrelated to COVID-19
ConclusionAs with other viral infections, inner ear symptoms may be associated with COVID-19. In our sample patients with tinnitus onset before COVID-19 and those with tinnitus onset during or after COVID-19 did not differ significantly in their clinical characteristics and their hearing function, suggesting that tinnitus occurring in the context of a COVID-19 infection is not related to a unique pathophysiological mechanism. The comparison of COVID-19 patients, who developed tinnitus with those who did not develop tinnitus did not reveal any differences in COVID-19 symptoms or COVID-19 treatment. Thus, there was no hint, ...

Neuropathic Corneal Pain as Debilitating Manifestation of LONG-COVID
This report illustrates the case of a female patient suffering from severe ocular discomfort, tinnitus and ageusia, 7 months after a SARS-CoV-2 infection. The medical history implicated a diagnosis of LONG-COVID with ocular pain as the most debilitating symptom. In-vivo confocal microscopy revealed corneal microneuromas with hyperreflectivity and irregular enlargement of nerve endings in both eyes, which led to the diagnosis of neuropathic corneal pain. The aim of this report is to increase awareness that COVID-19 induced neuropathic pain can also occur in the cornea representing the human body's most richly innervated tis...

Long COVID, audiovestibular symptoms and persistent chemosensory dysfunction: a systematic review of the current evidence
CONCLUSIONS: The likelihood of patients with persistent audiovestibular symptoms related to COVID-19 was different among the articles; however, olfactory and gustatory disturbances were more consistently reported. Studies with longer follow-up are required to fully evaluate the long-term impact of these conditions.PMID:35763279 | PMC:PMC9137376 | DOI:10.14639/0392-100X-suppl.1-42-2022-10

Otolaryngology adverse events following COVID-19 vaccines
CONCLUSIONS: COVID-19 vaccine is of utmost importance in limiting the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Otolaryngology-related side effects have been described, but none was severe or life threatening. The mechanisms underlying these effects are still mostly unknown.PMID:35731083 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202206_28981
