Long-Term Hearing Loss after Acute Acoustic Trauma in  the French Military: A Retrospective Study
CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the prevalence of long-term hearing impairment after AAT in the French military. The findings emphasize the importance of preventive measures, including proper use of hearing protection devices, and the need for timely diagnosis and treatment. Further research is warranted to explore gender susceptibility to AAT and evaluate the impact of different weapons on AAT characteristics. The study also underscores the potential benefits of higher doses of corticosteroid therapy in reducing the risk of long-term hearing impairment. Overall, the findings contribute to a better understanding of AAT ...

Asymmetric hearing thresholds are associated with hyperacusis in a large clinical population
Hear Res. 2023 Jul 15;437:108854. doi: 10.1016/j.heares.2023.108854. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHyperacusis is a debilitating auditory condition whose characterization is largely qualitative and is typically based on small participant cohorts. Here, we characterize the hearing and demographic profiles of adults who reported hyperacusis upon audiological evaluation at a large medical center. Audiometric data from 626 adults (age 18-80 years) with documented hyperacusis were retrospectively extracted from medical records and compared to an age- and sex-matched reference group of patients from the same clinic who did not r...

Otosclerosis and stapedotomy: hearing improvement, complications, and analysis of potential prognostic factors in a series of 93 cases
CONCLUSION AND SIGNIFICANCE: Stapedotomy gave good audible improvement with a low risk of complications. Preoperative ABG was the only prognostic factor affecting the hearing outcome. Only one follow-up 6-12 months seems relevant.PMID:37471233 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2231973
