Tinnitus-on the interplay between emotion and cognition
HNO. 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1007/s00106-023-01339-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSubjective tinnitus (hereafter tinnitus) is often considered and studied as a perceptual phenomenon. Accordingly, various abnormalities in the area of cognitive processing have been reported in patients with tinnitus. At the same time, the disorder is characterized by considerable emotional distress, which is associated with a high comorbidity of affective disorders. Here, we aim to outline the close link between cognition and emotion, and how current research from the field of cognitive neuroscience examines the processing and acquisition of ...

The Erlangen model of tinnitus development-New perspective and treatment strategy
CONCLUSIONS: A possible limiting factor for the model and treatment strategy is the pitch of the tinnitus percept, which may require adjustments to the treatment strategy for frequencies above about 5 kHz.PMID:37715002 | DOI:10.1007/s00106-023-01355-1

Endovascular occlusion of a persistent stapedial artery prior to stapedotomy: a novel approach
ConclusionEndovascular coil occlusion of a PSA is feasible and safe in patients with favorable anatomy and facilitates middle ear surgery. It decreases the size of the artery and minimizes the risk of intraoperative bleeding in patients with a large PSA. The  future role of this novel technique in the management of patients with PSA-related conductive hearing loss and pulsatile tinnitus remains to be determined.

Analysis of items on the short forms of the tinnitus questionnaire: Mini-TQ-12 and Mini-TQ-15
CONCLUSION: Both questionnaires have a very good item quality and are clinically more efficient to use than the long-form TQ. If a similarity of the factor structure to the original questionnaire is required for research questions, the use of the Mini-TQ-15 is recommended.PMID:37702795 | DOI:10.1007/s00106-023-01365-z

Chronic tinnitus: An interplay between somatic and psychological factors
HNO. 2023 Sep 13. doi: 10.1007/s00106-023-01370-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic tinnitus is a common, sometimes highly distressing phenomenon that can be triggered and maintained by an interplay of physical and psychological factors. Partnering with clinical psychology and psychosomatic medicine, modern otolaryngology integrates both medical (e.g., hearing loss) and psychological influences (e.g., interactions between biographical experiences, personality traits, subjective evaluation of intrapsychic and interpersonal stimuli, emotional states, and intrapsychic or interpersonal emotion regulation strategies). Both...

Intratympanic dexamethasone in Mani ères disease and symptom control
CONCLUSION: ITD application shows improvement in controlling vertigo and tinnitus in patients under exacerbation in MD.SIGNIFICANCE: It is a promising non-destructive addition to the 'stepwise treatment concept' in MD and can be used as a first-line treatment in vertigo control.PMID:37682583 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2244003
